GT400 Cup Signups!
« on: December 08, 2008, 09:35:42 AM »
Well, the Clio Cup is over and finished.  It was a blast, and major Kudos to Pete for putting it together.  We've done sprint racing in spec touring cars, so we're going to the other end of the spectrum.  The GT400 cup (rulebook attached) will feature endurance races in heavily modified, grip-intensive production cars (A850, RWD, 300-400 hp).  Most races will be 25 laps of long ribbons, though the races at Sebring and Daytona will be 50 laps and be scored more heavily.  Nurburgring will be 8 laps.  Major developments include a caution system (all tracks but the Ring), a rules committee, and open-track qualifying.  We are looking to begin either this weekend or after Christmas with the 12 Hours (50 laps) of Sebring.  If we begin this weekend, the next race won't be until after New Year.  Sign up below.  If you're interested in serving on the rules committee, let me know about that as well.  I'd like at least four people for that, including myself.  Main duties will be acting as a race steward and room host, basically.  If you know what car you're driving, go ahead and post that as well, but if you don't know yet, that's fine too.  Also, let me know whether you're interested in running Saturday or Sunday (if we don't have enough people to run both days)

Oh yeah!  Got the #170 Mazda RX-8 ready to roll.  I'll serve on the committee if you need, but I don't know that my connection can handle hosting duties.

Either day works for me though.

I'm in.  E46 M3.  Number unknown at this point.

I'm also in for rules committee, and I can host, although I'd prefer not to (worrying about the connection, and its hard to beat fndr head on if I'm not in his lobby  ;)).

I can make either day work, but Sunday is easier.
It is highly likely that the above post was produced with a drippy jowl.

Sounds like fun.  Sunday works a lot better for me, Saturday is always up in the air.  I've got no idea on what kind of car I'll be driving.  I do think the 'Ring should be 10 laps though, I think at 8 there might be a couple of cars that can make it a 1 stop race and 10 usually makes it a 2-2.5 stop.

I really, really want to run this. But there is a possibility that a change in circumstances may make it impossible for me to run this regularly in the New Year whichever day it's on. I certainly can't make either day this weekend, barring a sudden cancellation on Sunday (Saturday is the works Christmas party so i can't really miss that one, especially when you work for a small business - your absence tends to be missed :-\)

So, please put me down as a gap-filler. If the race needs more entrants and I'm available I'd love to run it, but I don't want to take the place away from someone who may be able to run all season.

If I do get in, there's a nice purple Miura sitting there which has beaten my best times in testing or racing at both tracks I've run on (MVS & Silverstone GP).

As an aside, I see from the rulebook that my shop is sponsoring the Silverstone Round ;D So, there may be a prize available for the winner of that one...

Good to see some interest right off the bat.  Lists are updated.

And spiny, your point about the ring is a good one.  Any objection to switching to 10 laps on that one?  Should run about 80-90 minutes in these cars.

Thanks Fndr, glad you had good time, I'm sure this series will be just as competative...

I'm in by the way... not sure what car yet though I do have an AB-Flug RX7 thats quite nice but I may try something else... need to spend some more time testing...

As for which day, i'd prefer saturday but happy to go with whatever... but im not sure i'll be around this weekend if you ran the Sebring race..

Extra smokey.... now with no assists!

Pete, I'm more than willing to reserve this weekend for "winter testing," since this series will require a bit more time for development than a spec series.  I'm perfectly OK with starting in January.  If anyone's interested, though, I'm definitely up for running a test enduro this weekend.

As an aside, you might want to make sure that you get to 300 hp with the INGS RX7.  Most of the builds I've seen come in a little under that figure, and I had to rework my RX7 to fit the spec during testing.

Just to clarify my comment above. Having cleared it with Fender, there will be a prize of 500,000CR for the winner of the Spiny's Slow Tunes race at Silverstone. Nothing for 2nd though.

And that will still be the case even if I win the race :P

Also, this came up in my conversation with Spiny, so I felt I should mention it here as well.  We'll be running the races in a career room.  That way, people will make something for their efforts.  I can't really see a reason to run races in exhibition, unless we want computer drones to help fill up the grid.

Honestly, the AI drones would have no hope, and even in Z06s, they'd just become rolling chicanes.
