... and everyone takes the lap at 50 mph, pits open.  ...

Please, don't do this on the 'Ring!!!  :o

Other than that though, I would be in favour, and I would say that the call must be made by at least 2 drivers before a yellow flag is thrown. Also, to prevent multiple yellows, would it be worth limiting each driver to one initial call? (where initial call = beign the first to ask for a yellow, this to be seconded where another driver agrees). There would not be a limit on how many times you could second a call, since some yellows may be requested by more than one driver.

Thoughts?

Yeah, we couldn't figure out a workable version for the ring.  Also, because of the difficulty of the track, it's possible that we'd just be taking laps under yellow for an hour.  Also, I like the idea that just not crashing might be enough to win at the ring, frankly.

As an aside, here's an example of a racing incident from last night and how it would be handled.  We ran seven races in series last night as another dry run.  First, here's what happened.

Drivers:
CrazyBMXer-silver M3
Bimmer-white E46
Open-red RX8
Me-green Camaro

Going into turn one (where all the accidents seem to happen), I was a bit hot, and saw that I was going to rear-end open if I wasn't careful.  I lifted throttle, and had to tap the brakes.  They locked up momentarily, as indicated with a small puff of smoke.  Bimmer saw the writing on the wall and went inside.

Bimmer hit the grass, and understeered coming back onto the track.  He made contact with me, and we both went sideways.

Crazy had nowhere to go.  He took some engine and suspension damage, and all three of us took at least a little aero damage.

After the series ended, Open and I went into the replay and watched the incident several times, coming to the conclusions above.  We didn't do anything during the race, which was only 3 laps.  If it had been an enduro, we probably would have done laps 1 and 2 under caution, allowing Crazy to pit with minimal consequences for the rest of the race.  We decided that this truly was a racing incident, so no points deductions would have been warranted.

Its definetely a good idea to have at least 2 people watch the replay... I've been looking through some of the old series events over at Exodus to see what sort of things we could apply to series over here...

One incident that happened there, originally looked like the guy had just turned in on the other driver and caused him to spin, but when this guy posted the pics from his replay it showed his car as being at least 10 feet clear of the other car so the incident was put down to lag. But does highlight that at least 2 people need to save replays incase of any similar incidents... if only the one original replay had been looked at this guy would have been wrongly punished for a lag induced incident...

Extra smokey.... now with no assists!

Yeah, I really want at least two committee members in each race, if possible.  If we keep a two-race format, that means at least four rules committee members.

Quick bump:

I updated the rulebook to include a flag system (mostly for the cautions) and a "one-move" blocking rule.  Basically, if you want to block, you make one move and then keep your new line.

As an aside, we're getting toward the end of the Clio Cup.  I'm hoping to post sign-ups for the new season and a finalized calendar in the next day or two.  How does everyone feel about running the 12 Hours of Sebring fairly soon, then starting the season full-bore after New Year?
