LMMS: Daimler vs. Chrysler- Revenge could be sweet *CLOSED*
« on: October 27, 2008, 06:14:28 PM »
Bright and early, Monday morning two months ago in Detroit, MI

Drift: Man, I'm tired. I can't sleep on planes. I wonder why the secret, urgent meeting.

Krista: Well, whoever it was said it would be worth our while to catch the red-eye up here. It's got to be serious with the first class tickets in a one-day air envelope. Too bad Herb couldn't come with us.

Drift: They only sent two tickets. And first class was booked. I wouldn't feel right to stuff him in coach while I'm being spoiled like a fat cat. Plus, I need someone responsible enough to watch the crew while we're not there. You know how the rest of them can get into trouble really quick.

Krista: Hush. Here comes someone.

(In walks a man in a fine tailored suit. Drift pegs him as a lawyer)

Suit: Thank you for coming here on such short notice. I've been instructed to give you some of the details on an assignment my employers are offering you. They want it to remain a closely guarded secret, until it becomes nesessary for the rest of your group to know about it.

The rest of your information is in this package here. (lays a large manila envelope on table) I do not have any information for you other than what I have told you. Good day, and good luck.
(The suit quickly exits the room)

Krista: Wow.  When did we start dealing with the CIA?  That was really strange.

Drift: (opening up the envelope, only a DVD, cell phone, and one plane ticket fall out.)  He wasn't CIA. He was a lawyer. Some corporation paid him to be quiet. I guess he got live out his Bond/MIB fantasy today. This DVD should give us a clue as to who is paying for this.

(DVD is playing all that shows is a phone number .... no matter how far it is fast forwarded)

Krista: (dialing) I guess we need to call that number then.

Drift: Hello. Who is this?

Voice: I'm an executive at Cerberus Holdings. Which one is not a matter. We here feel that we have been treated rather unfairly about since dissolution of the Daimler-Chrysler merger. We believe that we can build cars on par with the former supposed parent company.

There will be a limo that will take you to a cargo plane that is going to Peidmont-Triad Int Airport. On it are three cars, A Charger SRT-8, a Challenger SRT-8, and one of the last Crossfire SRT-6. You have two months to prep these cars to embarass the Benz's that will show up at the track we have determined to give us the best chance of winning. On October 26th, you will board that cargo plane, with any of your American FT.net teammates, where it will take you to Mugello Raceway in Italy

Drift: Why the secrecy? Its just another hot lap challenge.

Voice: Simple. It's an ambush. The Benz WTC factory team will be showing up expecting a practice session. Your Late Model Muscle spec is very similar to the WTC spec. The only exception is a 2400lb weight minimum. So you can lighten up these cars as far as you can to be competetive. The M-B team will be bringing their C32 AMG sedan, and CLK55 AMG coupe. Beat them, beat them bad.

Drift: We'll do our best.

Drama and intrigue are the best part...

Somewhere in the Deep South…

TopBoost Engineering, 6:55 AM

Early morning October sunshine streamed into the tiny kitchen as Top shuffled blearily to the gurgling Black & Decker.  He poured himself a cup of dark, rich coffee and sat down at the cluttered kitchen table.  Still not quite awake, an urgent buzzing underneath yesterday’s Sports page made Top slosh his morning brew down the front of his shirt.

“What the…” Top said as he fumbled his cell out from under the pile of papers.  He had a new text.

Top’s eyes narrowed as he read the simple phrase.  Surely he didn’t understand the text. “OPEN YOUR FRONT DOOR.”

Top looked back over his shoulder towards the front door to his apartment.

He set his mug down on the table and still carrying his cell phone, slowly walked to the front door.

“Hello?” Top called, glancing back over his shoulder to the kitchen.  Gotta be a joke, he thought.

He looked down at the doorknob, unlocked the deadbolt and warily opened the front door.

On the mat at his feet sat a plain manila envelope.

Top let out a muffled cry as his cell buzzed in his hand.  Top stared, incredulous, at the message on the screen.

“OPEN IT.”

Casting furtive glances down the balcony, Top kneeled and slid the envelope to himself.

He fingered open the clasp and withdrew a single piece of paper, drawing in shallow breaths as he read the typed words.

Mr. Boost,
We have a considerable amount of money invested in your performance.  Do not disappoint us.  You know the repercussions should you fail to live up to our expectations.  We will be in touch.

I'm gonna ask a dumb question: I don't see a Mercedes C36 or S55 in my car list (I'm not at my xbox).  I see a C32 AMG and a CLK55 AMG.  Am I missing something here or are those the cars I should be looking at?  (They both start off at C529 and are chubby, so they look like good candidates.)

I found this beast sitting under a dust sheet at the back of the garage from a series I ran in not long after I'd started playing Forza...

It was sitting at A850 but with DoT's and 675bhp it was gonna need some work doing before it could go out on the track...

First step was stripping the engine back to stock and taking out the last of the weight, still only just comes in under 3,000lbs  :o

Keeping with the Full WR meant lots of fiddling round with other bits to get to 850Pi, In the end I managed to squeeze in a sports exhaust on the engine by going for slightly bigger than stock Firestone Slicks on light rims..

In the cars initial shake down with a stock setup except for tyre pressures the car felt really good, I always seem to struggle at Mugello but the car felt solid and I was able to put in some good laps..

Dodge Charger SRT 8 - 115.500

Also just as we arrived at the track this morning we heard something lapping the track, I managed to get down to the track in time to catch this car entering the Pits, seems Mercedes have a suprise in store they don't want anyone to see just yet...

@ Chuck, I think it just a typo and Drift meant the C32 and CLK 55, when I had a look earlier they're the only Mercs that would fit these specs..

Time: 0506 hours
Location: Spiny Towers

Spiny wakes with a start as the phone rings. After a good 60 seconds, his sleep-addled mind eventually allows him to find the handset and answer it. A softly spoken German voice asks if this is Spiny, and upon confirmation proceeds to regale him with a story...

"Reliable sources" have indicated that Cerberus are trying to increase the value of Chrysler prior to the merger with GM (and possibly Renault-Nissan depending on the source). Apparently they intend to parachute in the US arm of FT-Tuning to build out a set of Dodge's which will beat his company's cars at a promo race scheduled for Mugello. As a result, M-B are aiming to pitch in their contracted fast driver from Hertfordshire to ambush the ambushers. Spiny is to report to the M-B test centre at Brooklands for his assignment at 10am.

The phone went dead and Spiny went back to sleep.

7am, and the alarm wakes Spiny, who remembers the pitch. So, he jumps in the car and braves the rush hour M25 just making it to Brooklands with 3 minutes to spare. Funny how they refererred to being under contract - he doesn't have one with M-B (or anyone for that matter). Then it clicks, someone has rung the wrong number and was probably after a certain Mr. Hamilton ::)

The look of disappointment from the suit as he pulls up confirms that suspicion. No, he didn;t sign a contract while under the influence, and the man from the Benz is somewhat puzzled by the arrival of the stranger. But, Spiny has driven all this way so the man takes pity on him and invites him to test at the handling track there. The time is no world-beater, but it is enough to convince him that the driver is not a total lost cause. The offer is made - Spiny has a choice of a C32 or CLK55 and must pay all travel and entry costs. M-B will provide the required upgrades, and Spiny gets to keep the car if he can place ahead of the Dodges.

This could be expensive for Spiny, but the potential rewards make him jump at the chance. After all, it's not often you get factory backing...

After the breif sighting of the mysterious Camo-Clad Merc (maybe it was Spiny??) I had an idea that was sure to take the Daimler / Chrysler rivallry to a head by using the Chrysler thats really a Mercedes, especially as Mercedes weren't bringing their version along.. So I headed off to the nearest Dodge / Chrysler dealer and picked myself up a...

Chrysler Crossfire SRT 6, A Mercedes SLK in disguise... even down to the Supercharged 3.2 litre Mercedes V6 from the SLK 32 AMG.

Some frantic building in the garage later and It was out for its initial shakedown (Stock tune except tire pressures) showed this car really has the potential to blow the big Merc's into the dust on this track, it comes in just over the 2400lb weight limit and fits good wide tires. I know from having the same engine in my 'Graverobber' PT Cruiser that the engine has really strong power delivery and will spin rear tires easily so I put on a set of street cams so it was less peaky in its torque delivery. I was only running in test drive so my times didn't get saved but I had my best ever laps at Mugello so im looking forward to seeing what it can do with a bit of tuning...

Edit:- New time in my next post..

(Drift starts stomping around the room having a tantrum) ......not really

I would have won that bet with myself....huh...I knew that was going to be your first post Hop  ;D

As far as the cars....my mistake.
I do mean the C32 and the CLK55. I should pay attention to which cars are in the challenge. But I only knew that it was the little four door and the big coupe. I didn't focus on the numbers...or letters this time. :-[

As far as the limited time I have run all of the cars, so far the Charger is on top with a not bad, but not clean lap. There is room for improvment, so Pete should look out as a big heavy foor door is coming through.

The twist(s) are upcoming.....and boy are they good.

Well, at least one of them is.
The other one is just a side mission.   Did someone mention GTA in another post?    Like that.
