Tripping the Light Fantastic - A850 Proto Spirra
« on: May 28, 2008, 04:15:38 PM »
I tried out Serial's suggestion this time for obtaining a random number, and I finally got a car which I would upgrade beyond it's original class - the Proto Spirra in A. Some of you have seen this multi-coloured accident in a paint factory beast in B Class, Fit and Bimmer have come across an unmodified v.5.11 version in A. The rest of you will have to wait until I get a picture of it. ;)

EDIT: The waiting's over...

To be honest, this isn't a great car in Power trim. For sure it's got a few fastest laps for me, but it doesn't have the best aerodynamics ever (tops out at 195 mph). It also suffers from the old mid-engine trait of trying to bring the rear end around if you're not careful. I've tried to neutralise that as best I can by softening the rear ARBs and springs a bit. Occasionally it will give a suggestion of understeer coming into a corner and so I haven't moved it further that way, but for some this may be a bit oversteery.

That said, there is no doubt that this car is suggesting as much potential in A Class as it showed in B Class. I really think that it could set some good times in Twisty trim :)

Torque: 3897 lb-ft

With that much torque no wonder it wants to come around !!

I'm guessing that's...397 ?

Nice catch, it should have been 389lb ft.

Mind you, with 3897lbft of torque, I make that to be just under 700rpm for the max torque so just imagine the wheelspin off the line ;D

Looking forward to this one!  I have been tempted to build one of these for a while.  Being from the UK, had never heard of the car before Forza came along.

Forzamotorsport.uk had built out one of these cars for a race I was in. (BAR sponsored it and they supplied a tuned car)  I had the pleasure of chasing it around for 3 laps befor a bobble let me by for the win.  Very grippy, very agile but not as much top end.

Never did get around to building one.
Go sell crazy someplace else, we're all stocked up here.

...  Being from the UK, had never heard of the car before Forza came along.

That makes two of us - when they first said they were running a Proto Spirra from Korea I imagines a tuned up Kia or something like that!

I've got the power tracks run and there's some reasonable times out there from this car (for me at least), especially on Copperhead. But, i still think it might do better on the twisty tracks. If anyone does build out this Power car, I should caution that it doesn't like entering corners too fast and absolutely hates kerbs (I make it sound like Page 3 girl don't I? :D)

I did build it out for Maple Valley tonight, but as I got more into the car, I started taking corners faster and so probably need to extend the higher gears a little. I'm just under a second slower than Serial's Spirra, which to be honest is probably more to do with driver than it is with car. But, I'll have another go at the gearing and see if I can close the gap a little. For Maple Valley I ran it with minimum downforce as I feared I would lose too much time with the higher speeds on this track. I'll post up an MV tune tomorrow, then a full downforce tune to cover the other Twisty and Flowing tracks.

Sounded like a distant galaxy in Star Trek to me!

Will gladly give this a go, when next on the box.  Might be tricky as there is a little one about to sticke its head out some time soon.

Congratulations on the soon-to-be new arrival. :)

If you can wait, I'll be putting up a tune for Maple Valley tonight which seemed to be a better bet than the Power Build (well, it was competitive at Mugello and on Maple Valley Short too). Then, the final tune will be for the same build, but with full downforce - although the Maple Valley build grips well, it has next to no downforce which is good where you don't want to be left too far behind on the straights, but not so good on the corners.

Just a quick update on this - the Maple Valley (low downforce, high grip) tune also seems to go well at Silverstone and Suzuka full circuits. Road Atlanta seemed to be best served with a power build, but with the Forza spoilers (set to 45/60 DF) and lighter wheel rims.

I'll try to get the high downforce tune up at the weekend.

I've got the high downforce set-up posted now - this one really is the best of the bunch so far, especially on the snakes where it seems to be ending up around the 200 mark on the leaderboard.

One thing which really does surprise me is how much more stable this one feels, even though it only give you and extra 0.02g@60 and 0.06g@120mph lateral grip.

I built the grip car last night and gave it a quick run before a powercut stopped me short.  I had ran a 1:52.xxx, which would have been my track pb.  This was the low DF version and I have just noticed you posted the high version also, which I will def try.  In comparison I ran a Subaru Legacy 600hp+ missile build a friend sent me to try at 1:53.243

I did make a couple of slight changes to fit in the TSW custom rims.  I put on the Pirelli slicks and increased the rims size to 19".
The changes reduced the overall weight to 1962lbs (-12lbs) resulting in these benchmarks:-
0-60       4.06
0-100      9.76
TS          161.1
100-0      251.4
G60         1.17
G120       1.19

I was also tempted to take off the race rear bumper to help with acceleration and then add the grade1 slicks.

Spiny I have to say, although I only got four laps in on SilGP while running the 500HP Semi Pro Race, I absolutely loved it!!! ;D  Hopefully you can walk around with a nice proud glow today, as it would seem to be another very fine build.
Hopefully will get some time in the next couple of days to run it again.
