Rallycross Challenge - A850 Evo6 GSR

There's not really a lot to say about this one which hasn't been said in the challenge thread. I've tried to tune out the understeer. To be honest, it was quite easy to remove the on-acceleration understeer - playing with the diff settings did for that. What took more doing was improving turn-in. In the end, this was the resut:

This looks good on paper...I'm imagining how it would drive in my head (yes, I have a problem and am willing to admit it)...my only suggestion would be to ask if you experimented with any positive toe on this beast ?

I have to admit that very early on in my tuning career, I tried positive toe, and just couldn't get on with it. I wasn't particulalry slow, just not consistent (can't even remember why now!) I think you could be right about it though - now that my driving and tuning skills are improved it might be an idea to see if I can get it to work now.

Spiny,

If you don't mind me asking what did you think of this build?  I'm curious because I've been working on an A850 Evo VIII MR and might try this as I like the AWD Evo's.  I haven't looked at the Evo6 yet but your setup spring / damper wise is a lot different than the one I'm currently running (Tonka 2 Toon).  I'm also trying to get the understeer out of it and the diff is one thing I've looked at as well as the ARB.  Thanks,

The srpings and dampers (and indeed most of the other settings) come from Feuerdog's calculator, although this is probably the car which I have deviated furthest from FD's settings.

The car will oversteer more than most other Evos you'll come across (mainly because I wanted rid of that understeer which plagues the car) and the trick is to drive it hard, but not too hard. Turn in is assisted by the large amount of rear brake bias (hence why you have to chuck it in), and I pushed the diff balance rearwards to allow the back-end to come around a bit when you accelerate out of corners. The springs and ARBs were firmed up at the back compared to the calculator - again that was an attempt to reduce the understeer, although these two were more to help out under steady-state corner.
