Porsche Love
« on: March 22, 2008, 01:34:34 PM »
Over the past couple of weeks I've been tuning and testing just about every Porsche in the game excluding anything U or R-Class.  I gotta say I'm impressed.  I love the look, feel, and performance of these cars.  Hell, I had considered changing my GT to porshelovere39 (......the 39 would be my age....LOL) but decided against it.  I'll be posting builds and tunes over the next couple of weeks so stay tuned....

Disclaimer - These tunes are all suited to my driving style.  Tweeks will be needed based on your use of assists.  Also, I've left tire pressures at 30/30 since I seem to have more success while racing online with those pressures.  The cars seem to respond better right from lap 1 which will give you an edge in a 3-5 lap online race (....most seem to be that length, don't they?).  Feel free to leave comments and suggestions if you end up building a similar machine.  Enjoy.

997 GT3 - A850

This car presently holds my best time in A-Class at the Ring.  The lack of rear downforce mean you have to take a little more care in driving her but she'll reward you big in the end.

Those are some great looking cars Detrick.

I've been collecting Porsches in my Blooze46 account - a Bold entry on my Round Tuit list is get involved with the Porsches big time.  For some reason, I never have messed with them.  In this game, and in the previous version.

Hell, I may like the Porsches so much that I end up Driving a BMW too... now wouldn't that be disgusting? ;) $

Don't let Bimmer hear you say that....LOL

Actually, the first BMW I drove (I mean really drove....not just 1 quick lap somewhere) was the 1970 CSL (I think this is the name....you know, the classic BMW from the recent DLC car pack).  Anywho, I must admit it's a very nice car.  I built it for the Spring Classic Series over at Exodus (PI650) and it's one sweet handling ride.  Maybe the topic of another thread when I get around to tuning up some more BMW's...

Your builds are different than all of mine, but not too much suprisingly.  I went mainly for grip in my 911 variants and power in my 944.  My 944 is a left over OldSchool Speedshop build for Sebring but it does very well on Motegi for some reason.

I've yet to take any of my P-cars to the ring but I think they would do very well there.  Each time I get on I swear I'm gonna jot down the build and toon so I can post them but I always forget.  Good looking cars by the way, all of my Porsche paints have been won or gifted.

Maybe one day we'll see how the stack up against each other online.   ;)

This I would love to do!  For some reason I very rarely see a Porsche in an online race.   :'(

I've got a couple more builds to post (a 900PI AWD Cayman, a RWD A850 GT3 RS - my favorite A-classer, an AWD 900 PI 997T, a 650PI 1973 Carerra, a 900PI 959, etc...).  I've run into fits with that Cayman trying to dial out the understeer and have spent more time tuning this car than any other in my garage...it's been frustrating.  As you can see from the PI's of some of the cars I haven't posted yet they are more specialty cars I run with different groups when I'm online so I don't know if they would be any help to anyone here or not.

I haven't gotten my AWD Cayman to do much good either but I still have it.  I spent the better part of an evening tinkering with the AWD 997 and I'm still not very confident in it.  I have run the crap out of my 996 and my 911T though.

In a B-class room I'll pull out my 944 if I need a power car other than muscle and it seems to be just fast enough to not raise any suspision.  The cars are very good as long as noone is using a LB.  My 911T just can't hang with a Mugen even though it will top end them with a grip only build.

I had a 959 but purged it, I never liked it stock so I didn't keep it.  I can't buy them but I may try to dig one up on the AH and try your build on it.

As far as the PI not being perfect per the game, I have had enormous success with my restricted builds in random rooms.  I have even run borrowed cars against beginners to stroke my ego a bit with success.  I won't rule anything out until I try it.  50 PI points used incorrectly can ruin a good car.

Boxster is my next Porsche Adventure.  I've got one that I had every intention of using for a hotlap challenge but never got around to.  The challenge was to run a 68sec lap around Sebring Club with it in B-class.  I can get close in my Cayman but I had intended to make a Power build out of the Boxster.  Seeing you went with stock power I may be inclined to forgo the slicks and add some go juice to the beast.

Funny you should mention that.  I'm thinking of changing the build to go with less tire more power.  I was thinking this while comparing 0-60 and 0-100 BM's between the 944 and Boxter....the Boxter is quite lame by comparison.

News of the Day - I took it to Serial but good while driving my B700 911T last night at Mugello ....I was so pleased with myself and had such a smile on my face.  My fantasy world shattered after I got back to the lobby and realized that while I was tooling around in a 700 PI car he was driving a 650 PI machine ...needless to say my delight turned to  :-[ rather quickly.  Honestly, had I known that I would have pulled over and let him take 1st - heck he was only about 150 meters back as it was.  Then to add insult to injury he proceeded to match my best 700 lap time in that same 650 machine in the next race......

Got any rocks to hide under?

On a sidenote the 911T was a little more tail happy then I remember when I originally tuned it ....so I'll be making some adjustments to that tune in the coming days.

....and anytime you want a rematch Serial you let me know - especially if you're spotting me 50 again.   ;D

Man, you had me worried...I thought you were in a B650 as well, and I was thinking "no way in hell I can run those lap times in my B650 car - Detrick is flying !".  I was really getting worried about my car, thinking it just wasn't going to cut it for the rest of the Spring Classic series.

Good racing in that one, you were running solid under the 2:00 mark !

Seems like I missed out on a good race.  Wish I could have joined up but my reputation was on the line in some heated R2 races.  Had a great room full of good racers and I couldn't pull away, I was up over 20 points in total and the races were super close, I was chasing a Maserati all night but my ole 550 was more consistant.

Hopefully we can have that Porshe Showdown this weekend, I built a power Boxster that still needs some tuning but shows promise over the Cayman on the Mid length tracks.  Also have a new A-class toy that I'm getting used to.  *excitment*

...and it's got me rethinking my build and tune on the 650 Carrera because when I switched to that car on the next Mugello race I lost 3 seconds in lap-time   :o .  No way those 50 PI points translates to 3 seconds....( I realize it's a different car but still.....sheesh...)

Hey, I understand.  When you've got a full room of good racers no way can you leave that.....  We'll have our moment to race the Porsche's in the future I'm sure....
