Random Again - C Class Infiniti G35
« on: March 14, 2008, 05:32:21 PM »
Following a couple of successful excursions (well I though thtey were successful anyway) into D and R2 classes, the random number generator decided I would be running this big beasty. As most will be aware, it's not really a sports car, more a luxury coupe, and is pretty heavy at that. But, unlike the previous two cars, it does have enough spare PI to be able to throw a few different parts at it, so there will be mroe marked differences between the 3 (actually 4 on this one) builds.

All cars are build to feuerdog's 5.0 calculator apart from the changes mentioned. If anyone wants a full set-up, just let me know 8)

Upgrades:
Power: Street fuel system, Sport PD supercharger
Platform: All Race upgrades except Stock weight reduction
Wheels: Enkei RP03 rims, stock tyres, width and size
Aero: Forza bumpers and spoilers, Ings Side skirts (not that it matters which you pick!)

Tune:
Tyres: 29/29
Gears: Varies according to track
Caster: 5.5
Aero: 55/63 on Nurburgring, other tracks are either all max, or all min (so far at least)
Diff: 40 Accel/ 25 Decel

All other settings are as feuerdog's v.5 calculator

The car weighs in at 3450lbs and has 336 bhp, so acceleration is not a strong point. However, it does hit a good top speed (170mph at the 'Ring). The handling is also surprisingly sharp, for which I think I should thank feuerdog - it's certainly much better than you would expect at this weight on stock tyres. I noticed when I ran the 'Ring in Exhibition that GS Shyner ran it in this car in C Class today as well. I must admit I will be interested to see how he interpreted the requirements for this car/track combination...

There is also a 4th sub-set-up which is very similar to this, and was used only on the ovals. For this, the Forza front and rear wings were junked for one of the others to allow a bit more top speed. That raised the PI so the sport fuel system had to go as well, which knocked the power down to 320 bhp. In this form, the car would hit 179mph at the Speedway - not bad for a C-Class non-missile.

At the moment, I'm fairly confident that the car will be most at home with a power build, what with it's slippery shape and high weight and power. But, I will be running the whole of C Class in it, snakes and all and it will be interested to see how it holds up on the tracks which don't suit it. I have to admit though that I think this is one class where I may not "beat Blooze" :D

Oops! I forgot to put this one up before I started on the Twisty tracks, so sorry for the lack of information. But, I can say this about the Flowing Build:

Upgrades:
Power: Nothing
Platform: All race, except Sport weight reduction
Wheels: Stock width with stock size Enkei RP03 rims and Kumho Street Tyres
Aero: Forza bumpers and spoilers, Ings side skirts (because I think they look better than the other 2 options)

Time:
Almost another v.5.0 this one, although the tyres were set to 29/29 and caster to 5.5 with me keeping my favoured 40/25 diff settings. The aero was generally set to maximum for all tracks.

This build should give you 280 bhp, but with approximately 3080lbs weight, the power/weight ratio is about 200 bhp/ton rather than the power build's 214 bhp/ton. However, in reality the acceleration is not a lot different as the gears are usually spaced a bit closer as you're not hitting such high speeds on these tracks. On the bright side though, as I'm running street rather than stock tyres for this, I should have a bitmore mechanical grip :)

I've finally got a Round Tuit on this one. This is the Twisty Tune for the Infiniti. As is probably a bit obvious, it is heavily based on Feuerdog's v5.11 calculator, although I have reverted to using the softer springs (90%) and stiffer ARBs (110%) of before (although the ARBs are not stiffened to the same degree as FD seems to have stiffened them some in his calculator. There have also been some mods to the diff and some very minor mods to the Camber and Brake bias.

Upgrades:
Engine: None
Platform: All Race, except Stock Weight Reduction
Wheels: BFG DOT Tyres, 245/R18(F) on 265/R18(R) stock rims
Aero: Forza Front & Rear Bumpers and Rear Wing, INGs skirts

Tune:
Tyres: 29/29
Gears (Malayan Krait): FD = 3.53, 1-5 = 3.16, 2.28, 1.80, 1.50, 1.28
Camber: -0.9/-0.8
Toe: 0/-0.2
Caster: 5.4
ARBs: 24.80/19.70
Springs: 686.9/574.3
Ride Height: 4.9/4.8
Rebound: 12.6/11.0
Bump: 8.4/7.3
Aero: 125/150 (Max)
Braking: 49% Front/ 100% Pressure
Diff: 40/25

Stats:
Power: 280 bhp
Torque: 270 lb/ft
Weight: 3491 lbs
0-60: 4.752s
0-100: 15.606s
Top Speed: 149.5mph (probably limited by the gearing)
60-0: 113.3ft
100-0: 303.3ft
g's & 60mph: 1.03
g's & 120mph: 1.03

Intriguing, Spiny.  I've built out a couple of these for the PI project in my garage.  It was a little tough to drive in my case; you might wanna go with tires on the flowing and short track builds.  DF might help as well, though I kind of doubt it'll be necessary with that much weight and that little power.

Ran my C-Class Infiniti G35 build on Mugello, Suzuka, Sebring and Nurby in Exhibition today.
It was easily beating my Mazdaspeed MX-8 build that ran that in all exhibition courses up to incuding Mugello.
Total grip build.

Have fun... sharp looking car!

To be honest, it wasn't too bad to drive at all. The only exception was at the 'Ring where initially I tried it with minimum downforce. It wasn't too twitchy or uncontrollable, just had a habit of persuading me that it could go through a corner faster than it actually could ::) Increasing the downforce, even just the 10lbs or so that I added seemed to make it stick just enough to be semi-consistent. I ended up failing to beat my 8:30 target at the ring, but only by 0.6 seconds so it can do pretty well in this setup - Feuerdog's v.5 definitely works!  :)

Still, I've run the power tracks with this thing now (The'Ring varies between "Power" and "Flowing" depending on the car. In this case I ran it as a power build, but I don't think you could put a lot more power into it.) The enxt step is to run the flowing tracks with it. That will necessitate a complete rebuild as the power parts are stripped off and I start shedding weight. For the twisty tracks I'm going to go for grip after last year's NSX at Tsukuba challenge. To be honest though, I think the times I set there could be quite poor - guess I'll find out soon enough  ;D

Got the picture up now :)

I got around to running this at Mugello today, and it seems that Shyner has it right, and I have it wrong. I had this track down as a flowing track, but the "lightweight" build really struggled to match Shyner's times (by the way, nice times, I keep coming across these top 100 G35 times when I go into exhibition so I have something to aim for :D). I think I might have to retry this on Mugello when I get the car build out for grip and see if I can find any more time - the way my Integra ghost walks away from me is just irritating.

I run all my cars as a single build.
No bluster,  ;)  just a FYI.
No suspension adjustments except right after second race for camber, and tire pressure and Tsukuba for differential tweaking.
I run the same AERO except for NISSAN and NEW YORK (minimum).

I'm getting better at the Ring but still way cautious as one screwup is costly for me (sim everything).

Go get em tiger!

Spiny, I really like your approach to paintjobs.  I like the fact that the cars often have logos and numbers at interesting angles.  This one also follows the curve of the car particularly well.  Nicely done!

In that case Shyner, I am very impressed with your times. I've not started on the Twisty tracks with it yet which is where I will go with a full grip tune, so the times you're setting with your Infiniti in the grip car that I've seen are especially good. I look forward to trying to beat your grip times ;)

@Fndr - glad you like the paint jobs. I have to do something to try to cover up my lack of artistic talent. That's why you only see standard logos. Switching the angle is one way to make them appear different.

As a little test, there is a copy of this car to the first person to guess the inspiration. I've checked and this product is on sale over in the USA. In fact, I would expect that a good number of you have this product in your house. The blue may be a red herring, but the red centre with yellow/gold edging, side striping and white numbering (think lettering) with dark red drop shadows (which doesn't show up due to the crap jpegging) are the bits to look at.

If someone does get it, let me know what number you want and whether you want a Speedway, Power, Flowing or Twisty tune/build on it.

Happy hunting :)

It's bad. I've started seeing objects, logos etc. in real life and thinking "I could make a nice design based on that" ::)
