Track Notes - ALS/500 - Road Atlanta

-"The Esses" - That whole downhill section can be taken at full throttle.

-Turn 5 -  A wide line early on this one is necessary, wider than expected.  You'll want your right tires to be right on the right curbing.  I like to lift a bit before the curb and get on the brakes as I'm next to the right curbing.  Then, sling it hard left aiming at the left curbing. Once you crest, full throttle.  You should be carrying a minimum of at least mid 80's mph through this entire turn.  You should exit at close to 100 mph.

-Turn 6 - It's such a simple little turn but a couple of tenths can easily be lost or gained here.  You should braking early enough to be accelerating just past the apex and almost rubbing the rumble strip on the right side.

-Turn 10A/10B - You MUST sacrifice a little on 10a so that you can get on the gas earlier for 10b.  You will want to brake a little early, cut over the left curbing on 10A, stay left as much as possible to set up for 10B.  Turn hard right for 10B aiming at the right (inside) curbing.  Once you start cresting the hill get on the gas hard.

-Turn 12 (last turn) should be FULL THROTTLE in all of these cars.  You may have to go a little wide to the left before the turn, and swing it hard right EARLIER than you are expecting.  You want to aim at the right (inside) curbing.  It's better for your wheels to touch to right curb than the left curb.

I find Turn 5 to be the key to the lap. If you take more of a conventional line there you can easily lose close to a second.

I think that turns that make or break your lap are Turn 2/3, turn 5 and turn 10.  The last hotlap i did in the missile 'Vette (which yielded a 78.405) was one of the only times i took turn 5 near perfect.  I was behind my ghost by .3 or .4 going into that turn and gained nearly .5 over the ghost coming out of the turn.  Hopefully, i'll be able to get back in that car and break into the 77's sometime.

Turn 5 was the make or break for me as well.  Great advice, but for me, I found upshifting early also helped, sort of a "poor man's TCS," since I don't use the real thing.
