Wow, high differential settings.  Is this the one for Maple Valley?

Yep, this is the one.

This one is actually a little outdated on a couple of settings.  I'm gonna update it now...

Ok, updated.  The only change was 5% lower deceleration lock.  I think it makes a pretty signifigant difference.

Yeah, I run a pretty low differential on my flowing track builds.  I was surprised to see it that high.  Actually, I wonder what the difference says about our driving styles, since we're pretty close in lap times.  Too bad the only time I could watch you work, it was in traffic.

I based the diff numbers on this, a BMW Motorsport Racing diff

I figured that there might be a method to BMW madness - and it worked pretty well  ;D

Yet another reminder that maybe sometimes Forza is closer to reality than we think.

Yep.  This is one of the first B-Class cars that I have well and truly liked racing  :)

I've been looking to get a decent M3 sorted, so I'll be building this one out to give it a go.

I'll be sure to give you some feedback.

If there's a way to do it better... find it.

I have 0 BMW's built and am pretty dismal at Maple so I think I'll give this one a go too.  Hopefully feedback to following in the next few days.

I built one of these this morning and did some initial testing.

First some corrections/clarifications:

  • Following your build I was a few points shy of 700 pi so I upped the tire brand to hit 700.
  • I assume your 3rd gear is actually 1.60

I like the look of the car.  The wheels are a great match.  Now if only I could paint.

Initial driving impression: The tune is faster than my driving abilities.  It wants to turn (the back end mainly) even before I'm really ready.  I can see how this would work well for a more skilled driver but it's a little too much for me.  I do like the overall balance and it's pretty well behaved as it crosses the limit.  I didn't feel like I was ever going to totally lose the car but I didn't feel totally in control or very fast either.  I felt it could use a bit more grip overall.  And the tires seemed to take forever to warm up.

My next step was to add full aero, which allowed me the pi room to go up a tire width, and turn down the diffs by 10 both front and back. I set the aero pretty low, front about 1/4 up, rear about 1/3 up.  This build was more in my comfort zone but the ultimate potential speed may be lower for a better driver.

That's as far as I got this morning.

I was testing at Mapple Valley full.  The best I could do was an 85.5 which is almost 3 seconds behind my Mugen time (a car I slapped together in 5 minutes and have only used for one career race just to see what it could do on MV) and it looks like well over a second behind your time.  I'd put the second plus you have on me to your better driving skills but I'm looking for a non-mugen I can drive to within a second of my mugen time.  I'm not sure yet if I can pull that off with this car.  I'll put some more time into this car and see what I can come up with.  Maybe I'll try to master driving your tune for a little more and also do full tune from scracth the way I normall would to compare.

Um, do you mean 95?  I hope so, because otherwise, I have a LOT of work to do, and there's clearly a new scoreboard car.

Alright - I took care of those two errors - thanks for pointing them out.  The tires are Toyos and third gear is 1.60:1

Why thank you!  :)

I tend to like my cars... responsive, shall we say  :D  This one could use some more grip, but I decided to lighten her up instead of using slicks.  If she's too tricky, I might try slightly softer shocks and maybe a 65/70 on the diff.

Yep - Aero is something I'm always wondering about on this car - it helps, be the aerodynamics aren't exactly sleek and slippery to start with.  If it works for you, go for it  :)

1) I, like fndr, hope you mean 95.5!  :o
2) Good luck - I but I don't think this thing is going to be hitting 82's anytime soon.  In the enduro, I was running consistently in the 84.5-86.0 range - you aren't that far off of my race pace.

PS: You're a better driver than you give yourself credit  ;)
