I got my MS wheel swapped out and due to the recent price drop, actually made money on the deal, even after adding the new 2yr warranty ( ninety days, I don't think so )
I did notice that there are a couple of subtle differences in the new unit. The buttons have a better feel to them, most noteably, the d-pad ,which was somewhat notorious on the early version.
Also, the there is much more rotational resistance in this wheel, even with the unit unplugged. I can't tell whether this is is due to a motor 'upgrade', a closer lash tolerance in the gearing, or something else but, it was significant enough that I went into the options and lowered the FFB settings some to compensate.
The wheel is nicely centered and no problems yet to report. I have yet to test with the headset tho...
Was running TT @ Mugello last night and in a search for more speed, I decided to turn on ghosts and downloaded one from the top 20. I quickly remembered why I don't do ghosts. Between the DLO ghost, my personal best ghost and my session best ghost, there were times where I couldn't even see the apex for the upcoming corner! Rediculous excuse for an AID, at least let me select which ghosts I want to see and which one's I don't!
After the TT, I brought my newly tweaked Ferrari back over to Exh for a 5 lapper and quickly knocked about 3 seconds off my previous best run but, after taking another couple of shots at it without improvement, I noticed that my best laps were always my last. Figuring that this was most likely a symptom of tire pressure issues, I added 1 pound to the fronts and reran. I noticed immediately the improvement in front grip and steering response. Took another two seconds off my race time.
I guess I needed that little reminder not to take the little things for granted. A new run at the Mugello TT will have to wait until round two though.
