Finished all the D-class cars tonight. Some suprising things popped up in the builds of the cars. The Charger, yes the famed Charger, was able to take a bit of extra weight off, then add some power and still be a D400. However the proof is in the pudding as the extra power did absolutely nothing toward making the car faster around the short track. That led me to add power to the Chevelle and retest. Same result. This should only come into play on the longer tracks, but we don't have to run anything like New York or Road Atlanta. Moved on to the 'Cuda and only applied the rear wing, nothing else aero. Built it out to the proposed spec and ran it. I had some hesitation about the Camaro's and the GTO as they start out pretty close to 400. All of them had to go without much or any weight reduction as well as very little in the way of power upgrades. The Z28 had the scariest build of them all. I had to go without the driveshaft to keep it under 400 and that was just platforming. No power, no weight redux, very close to stock.
Round 2 Boomslang numbers
Charger, 33.520
Cuda, 33.083
Camaro SS, 33.138
Camaro Z28, 32.634
GTO, 33.325
The GTO is heavy, drives heavy, and the time reflects it. Of all the cars it seems to be the least competative but I'm sure I'll be proven wrong.
