Muscle, Inc. Car Specifications
« on: September 12, 2007, 08:13:17 PM »
To compete in the Muscle, Inc. Tuning Challenges and the organized online events you need to build a car to the following specifications (which aren't many!).

Car Class is B.
Performance Index is 700 Maximum
Tires are Sport Compound (DOT) mandatory.

Pretty simple except when it comes to the tires. You do not have any option other than the Sport Compound tires. No stock tires, No Street tires, No Race tires. This always confuses people so make sure it says Sport Compound. You can use any of the tires listed in that option.

The Car List is as follows with no exceptions: Pre-1976 versions of these cars

Camaro Z/28
Camaro SS
Corvette Sting Ray
Corvette ZR-1
Chevelle
Dodge Charger
Plymouth Barracuda
Mustang Boss 429
Shelby GT 500KR
Pontiac GTO
Challenger
Trans Am SD 455

Note: The Charger and Chevelle may be restricted in some challenges.

That's it. You can build a car for grip and handling or power or a balance of both. These are the Muscle, Inc. Cars.

In the beginning, Muscle Inc. encompassed the single class of cars listed above.  The need to expand has always existed but has been a trail fraught with misteps, misgivings, and misery.  Never the less - the need still exists.  Hell's bells - there's all sorts of new cars and people want to drive them.  There's other classes.  So... here we go.

So, from here forward - Muscle Inc. will become a set of class specifications, rather than a single class of cars.  The various classifications will be defined specifically and uniquely.  There is only one global rule - Muscle Inc. classes will involve cars of US Manufacture only.  We have other projects to take care of the rest of the world (take a look at Hoplee's FCT projects).

Each of the classes will be defined in their own post below.  A few basic thawtz...
  • The Original Muscle Inc. will remain as is and be referred to as Muscle Inc B Classic.  It is defined in the first post of this thread.
  • Muscle Inc. D Class (in development)
  • Muscle Inc. C Class (in development)
  • Muscle Inc. A Class Limited (ACL)
  • Muscle Inc. Late Model Muscle Series (LMMS)

Muscle Inc D Class

First of all, a big Salute and Tip o the Hat to our pal Fit4aking for all his hard work getting this together.  He's built all of the cars, 10 of them, and run each of them on numerous tracks and documented the results.  You can follow his efforts in the thread D-Class Muscle Inc. (Super Stock Series by Spanky's Speedshop)
located on the bulletin board in the break room down to Spanky's place.

Beta Spec 1.0.0

We are getting ready to run our first challenge with the Muscle Inc. D cars, also known as the Quad S, or Spanky's Super Stock Series.

The intial PI of these cars and the D-400 restriction pretty well limits what can be done and should in itself be sufficient for creating a level playing field.  We are going to start out with the following.  This is for all of the D class Muscle cars.   Some of the cars may get the boot (Chevelle?) just for not playing well with others.

  • The car must have full Race Platform/Handling upgrades, excluding Weight Reduction.  Whether or not to use WR is left to the builder.
  • With the exception of the Challenger, each car must be upgraded with the minimum of at least one tire width.  This will be 215 mm for most of them.
  • With the exception of the Chevelle, each car must have the Spoiler attached.  Whether or not to use the front diffuser on the Barracuda is left to the builder.

Let's build a few of these and try them out.  There is a Muscle Inc. Development thread posted in my garage - we can discuss problems, issues, etc, and so on ... there.

Fit offered the following clarification after I'd muddied the waters trying to be cute with a rim requirement...

The way I see it the rules aren't that strict and they aren't meant to be.  Its a low budget "entry level" style race series.  The main goal was to totally eliminate the missles but keep the cars competative within themselves.  The only way to really burn through PI is to add tires or remove weight.  Essentially these cars have "enough" power but lack grip.  Being we are a bunch of toon-happy guys the full platform parts will allow for comparo discussion with setups.  The tire width actually makes these cars grip well, not great but well.  Its a small attempt at preventing stock tires and full power coming into play.

As far as additional upgrades go.  Have at it.  I can only suggest that you go for some weight reduction.  On some of the cars you can remove weight and still have some left to add power.  Again, power isn't very necessary, I hope to only run small tracks.  The Chevelle for instance actually slows down around Boomslang with added power.  That's also one of the reasons its included, along with the Charger.  If they start to dominate we'll see but so far they aren't the best.

The short and sweet of it is add at least one width to the tires, unless your driving the Challenger then I suggest you take away some weight.  Then fully upgrade the platform parts.  Full race all the way from brakes to differentials.  If you have anything left its fair play.  Add lightweight wheels, remove more vehicle weight, add wider tires, whatever.  Chances are you'll only have a couple of PI points to burn.

I know there are a lot of ways to upgrade cars but take the grip path and you'll be rewarded.

01/30/08: Updated the Car List (red items below) and a slight modification to the specs.

A major Tip of the hat goes to Drift2XL for the primary development of this class - he has busted his ass.

The Following is the opening post from his thread concerning this project.

There are specs and discussion in that thread and you are invited to go read and come up to speed on development to this point.  Any further discussion of the ins and outs of this class should be conducted in that original thread.

The car list and rules are not entirely written in stone.  This is a new specification and it will require a few tuning challenges and online races to get all sorted out.
