Cool!  I didn't know about the popup-list.  It makes is handy for garages that have more than five or six cars in them and when I haven't gotten all cryptic with the Tab Names to keep the character count down...

I was recently asked in a PM, "how exactly do I go about filling out the 'New Car Template'?"  with particular emphasis on columns A-F.

I thought I would respond in here in case someone else wondered the same stuff.

First let me say that the day that this spreadsheet had an express designed purpose are long, long gone.  And its original purpose, to calculate the percentage change to the suspension parts has changed many times.  Many, many times.  So the location of many items is due more to expediency than design.

Columns A and B are primarily labels.  Exceptions are cells B12-13, 16-17, and 22-23.  The black over cyan cells calculate the Bias of the stock settings, the values entered in cells C12-13 for ARB, C16-17 for springs, and C22-23 for rebound.  This for analysis only.

The pink over grey cells can be used to alter the Tonka results by the entered percentage.  This is only implemented for the rebound and bump values.  See the functions in cells E22-E25.

To use the sheet, simply enter the values for the ARB in cells C12 and C13, the values for the springs in cells C16 and C17

I like to enter the values that are installed on the car in their respective cells in column F.  That is usually accomplished by doing a Copy, Paste Special/Values from Column E.

I hope that helps some.  If not, perhaps a more specific question is in order.

Don't know if this has been asked before, but are the Benchmarks for Base refering to the stock car, or the car built out, etc, using the stock tuning?

Also where do I enter the torque values?

The Base that I put here is usually that of the stock car.

What torque values?

In one thread you stated that i needed to input the torque values for the car at certain RPM's, (done by flooring it in 6th gear down the 'Ring straight.)

If you floor it up the straight, then go back and watch the replay, you can see on the telemetry the horsepower and torque values at a given rpm. I believe this is where Blooze gets these values from as it allows a more accurate plotting of the torque/power curves than the (frankly rather shabby) Forza graphs.

You really do need to try to be a bit more specific with your questions.  I have posted about half a dozen different spreadsheets in about as many threads.

Which spreadsheet?  Which thread?

In the case of the transmission sheet, torque values are entered in cells W5 thru W29.

In the case of the reverse engineering spreadsheet, torque values are not entered.

Sorry, it's late, lol.  I was referring to the transmission section of the NewCarTemplate spreadsheet.

In that case, the torque values are entered in the cells W5 - W29 as stated.

A little helpful hint here for those of you who are making dyno runs using the Telemetry.  If you start out in slow motion before going into step mode, the stepping process will be much more granular, allowing you to hit the RPM check points much more accurately.  This cuts down on some of the pain in the butt extrapolating...

Do any of you spreadsheet hacks know the process for creating an indirect reference with a string function?

i.e.; in worksheet ws1...
  • cell A1 contains a file name
  • cell B1 contains a cell address string
  • cell C1 contains the data located in the results of concatonating the A1 & B1

This would help make the info rollup a bit more maintenance free.

Thanks

Yeah, that's the function I have been using, or trying to... :-\

No matter what I do, or have tried, I am unable to assemble a string from data in two different cells that the InDirect function will read correctly.  I have stepped through the calculation steps and the string is assembled correctly (or at least, it appears to be identical to the address in a cell that is linked directly), yet the function always registers as a #REF error.

Thanks anyway...

Hey Blooze... Might be teaching you to suck eggs, so to speak, but do you have the cells / ranges named?

I've not used Macros for about a year so im a bit rusty but I do remember that naming cells / ranges really helps when it comes to Macros in Excel...

What I am looking at here isn't a macro, but a function in a cell.  If you look at my Stable sheet you will see what I am looking to accomplish.  Column A would contain a file/worksheet name, and Row 1 would contain an absolute address.  The grid would then be filled out by the function I am trying to build.  Something like this...

cell B2 contains this function; =INDIRECT($A2 & "!" & B$1)

where cell A2 contains the string '[S-USA.xls]Saleen S7' and cell B1 contains the string value $A$1

The result should be the contents of the A1 cell in the Saleen build sheet, in this case, the Name of the car.

The semi absolute addresses in the function are required so that the function can be easily copied.  Naming would require creating a name unique name for each car.  I will give that some thought.  Using the relative ranges would be a lot more simple...

Thanks...
