Games that steal my FM2 time
« on: October 19, 2007, 07:24:15 PM »
OK If you have read all the threads you know I got a slight craving for dogfighting games. Not the Michael Vick kind.  :P

Anyways, this Tuesday Ace Combat 6 drops in stores. I have just checked out some screens from it and the drool factor has been pegged. I can't believe that its is a game. It looks better than the CG from Dogfights the TV show.  :o

And I just sent the Box out for "service" today.  :'( Great.

Yes, I'm a child of the '80's and have watched Top Gun too many times. But man, if it flys half as good as it looks it might be hard to put FM2 back in first. That or COD 4.

You see how much DD loves the FSX, well, it might be the same for AC6 for me. And there's online play. Finally, getting to school someone with a sidewinder or the mighty Vulcan cannon, it may be too hard to pass up sometimes.

I have 4-6 weeks of fondling the package. I don't know if I can hold out. :(

BTW, there is a game in choosing screens from the game vs. real shots. I sucked at it.  :-[Tells you how awesome the game hopefully will look.

I'm with you here: both CoD4 and AC6 look amazing.  I know I'm going to pick up CoD4... Ace Combate I'm still debating.
It is highly likely that the above post was produced with a drippy jowl.

I spent the better part of last night on the AC6 site just pushing the buttons to make the videos run. It is gorgeous. There are some really wild concepts with an airborn carrier leading the way. And from what I picked out from the trailer that I saw the X-01 may return from AC4.  Sweet.s

I'm a big fan of air-to-air combat games and was really excited when the announcement of AC6 for the 360 came out. I still own most of the AC series from its Playstation days and had many great hours with the old PS1 dual analog throttle stick controller, just turning and burning....

Blazing Angels was really all there was for the 360 in the early days and I had fun with the first one but, the purse strings have tightened alot lately and I haven't picked up the sequel. The $150 AC6 special edition with the fancy new controller has sadly been pushed to the wish list with all of the other new and soon to be released titles of interest.

Maybe Santa will visit early this year. Otherwise, I may be forced to even drastically cut my Forzacatin down to make room for studying for the certification exams that I will need to get a promotion/pay raise.

I think I'm going to go ahead and pick up AC6 when I get a chance.   What's the release date on it btw?  COD4 will probably be a must buy too, but I'm bad about not finishing that sort of game.  I've still got to finish the story of RB6:Vegas too.

Need for Speed Pro-Street is looking pretty good as well.

AC6 came out last Tues. So its "in stores now" (stupid announcer voice)

NFS Pro Street is out Nov 13. And I haven't checked when COD 4 lets loose. I might check GS now.

Oooh! COD next week. Nov 5

And that might be all I'm interested in buying. Assassins Creed looks like a sure fire rent, if they can turn the cool factor into a fun game. And what... Resident Evil 5 on New Years Day.... on the 360.... wow!

Other than that, The only non-racing game to peak my interest is Metal Gear Solid. Say what you will Kojima really gets the storyline into his games. I just hope it finally gets wrapped up to a satisfactory degree in this the supposed last one. I just hope that it doesn't take over like MGS2.

I actually haven't gotten AC6 yet. Nothing to play it on. But its on the way back from the Lone Star state right now. So I should be back up by the end of the week. So I was going to pick it up Thur. when I get paid.

I really do like Metal Gear, the first two are the only ones I've played.  I'm afraid to get the most recent one yet, I don't want to have missed story from the other games, if that is indeed how they play out.

The others, including Assassin's Creed, are purchases.  I'll probably rent RE5 and the new MGS to see how they go.

MGS 3 is a prequel. It is based during the Cold War. And Snake is the Big Boss, if you remember some of the early NES storylines. So other than to shed some light on some of the current storyline, there is no break in the story.

That said, it is fantastic. A true perfect score game. Get the second version, the Subsistance. It plays like a newer 3D third person, instead of the 2D style of MGS 1 & 2. The first Snake Eater plays in 2D.

The best boss battle is The End. Its a sniper battle over three screens. You have to find him, then shoot him. Easier said than done.

There is a camo system that is immersive and frustrating at the same time. Some areas it gets tiresome having to crawl 20 feet and change to another camo. Other areas Snake almost disappears to you the camo is so good. And tons of extras and mini games.

If you can get it for $20, it's a no brainer.

I have to admit, I'm hooked.  I've played Guitar Hero (I and II) at my friends house recently and I'm planning to pick up GTH III tonight.  Though in all honesty, it will probably not steal time from Forza just yet.  Sometimes I just don't feel like running laps.  It will steal time from other parts of my life though. :)

A flight combat game on the other hand with a fancy controller.  Well that's something I'm going to have to consider.

My birthday was last week and my mom sent me a Amazon gift certificate.  Today I got around to using it on Ace Combat 6, Tomb Raider Anniversary and Bioshock.  I played the demo for Ace Combat and can see getting hooked.  My live in girlfriend is a big fan of Tomb Raider style games, she loved Legend and also really liked the demo for Bioshock, neither of which I've played.

I also still have Dirt sitting on the shelf that I preordered, but never got around to with Forza.

I'll let you guys know tomorrow. Xbox should be coming back, if it comes early or late enough. I have a no one home zone for a couple of hours. Unfortunately, that's normally when UPS comes to my house.  ???

Either way, AC6 is coming too.  ;D

Ace Combat is gorgeous.

Even better is the fact that I don't really notice it because the battles are furious. There are a couple of furballs that have obscene amounts of enemies coming at you. I know one had at least 30 to 40 enemy fighters coming after me and my wingman alone. Lucky, I sniffed that one out in the breifing and brought the air to air special missiles.

The only bug I have is it is really hard to distinguish a ground target from scenery on some of the missions. Sometimes I can't even see the missile lock marker. And the fact that there is unlimited gun ammo.

A little adjustment is necessary from AC 4-5. Got to keep your speeds up. If you try to start a turning battle against multiple targets. You will get shot down.

And COD 4 is waiting for the the initial shakedown of the LMMS. I did check out the book. Not an LE. Bare bones is an understatement. No storyline warmup, no weapons, no intel. Just minimum instructions for screen nav and gameplay. Glad I'm no stranger to the COD franchise. But I did cach the review on X Play and are blown away. I can't wait to give it a try.

COD 4 is crazy awesome!

The firefights get really hot, really fast. The graphics are unbelievable. The AC-130 gunship mission is the best......so far. Downsides, none....other than watching one of your charaters die in a nuclear holocaust. That was disturbing and surreal.

Big ups to headshot splatter. Literally, can paint the walls. Almost too real.

Working over the Sniper mission now.  The single player was worth full price, cannot imagine how cool multiplayer would be.
