A few pics from the English countryside
« on: July 26, 2010, 11:35:01 AM »
Yesterday I went up to Silverstone for the Classics meeting. Great day out, so thought I'd share a few pics. Sorry for slowing up anyone with a slow connection (ok, not really sorry ;))

Started off with a few Fiat 500's on track

Then the junior formulae came out to play

A bit of touring car action after that

then the historic sports cars

before the front-engined pre-1961 Grand Prix cars rounded off the morning.

The afternoon started with some road-going sports cars

then out came the 1966-1985 Formula One cars

The Sir Stirling Moss 1950's sports car race followed that

then rear engined pre 1966 grand prix cars

before rounding out the day with a bit of big-engined touring cars :D

There was also a number of gorgeous cars around as many of the classic car clubs had enclosures at the track.

This totally inauthentic Stratos appears to be advertising a later version of FM3 ;)

while the paddock was also free to enter. I was there just before the final couple of races as the muscle cars were being prepped.

But, naturally I had to photograph the Cobras there:

And last, but by no means least, there was a fair amount of red metal there too 8)

This 246 Dino was sitting in the paddock

while this little number drove past me on the perimeter road

Big balls award must go to this guy though in the 330GTO. While all the racers were obviously very careful to avoid contact, they were certainly giving it their all in other respects. There were a fair few spins and plenty of four wheel drifting on show, so for this car to be raced and raced hard enough to win its race shows either courage or a VERY deep wallet. Shame the camera didn't quite focus correctly :'(

A#1 pics, Spiny. Very nostalgic for us old farts, and very enlightening for the younger guys, I'm sure. So much fun back then, and now.  The "way back machine" is working great. Thanks again.

Very cool pics Spiny, makes me even more disappointed that my local track is closed and there are no more vintage events.

Thanks for the compliments guys - glad you like them :)

Reno - those are some nice pics you have there. I may have to look at putting a link to the album (once I have mine uploaded), although I have picked most of the best for on here. Looking at the dates on the photos, I'd guess that your local track has only closed recently so is there still a possibility of it reopening under new management? Guess I'm lucky my nearest track is Silverstone which should be sage for a few years yet.

Thanks Spiny, one can only hope they reopen the road course.  I was trying to get Exodus together to buy the place but we couldn't come up with enough money.   :D

They did just reopen the renovated clay oval and they're going to have Gary Busey as the special guest announcer.  WTF??

Oops I almost forgot I also shot a little video with my point and shoot (all the pics are from the 20D with a L series lens on it)
