Targa Forza
« on: March 28, 2010, 02:23:00 PM »
Welcome to Forza-Tuning.net's

Targa Forza ! ! !

You betcha!  Okay, I'll admit it!  I was immediately infatuated with the entire program.  Cars, community, the whole Nine Yards.  It got me to wishing we had something like that in Forza.  And then... (boink :o )

We do!  Sort of.  Here's the short of it.  Our "Targa" is similar to the result of adding the races in the Super Lap Days event.

Okay, we have made a change.  We are still using the environments, Nurburgring, Kaido, and Positano, but we have switched over to the P2P side of things and are running the Stages A, B, C, and D for each of those environments.  There has been discussion concerning the change on the last half of Page 3 if you are interested.

I don't know of any way to cheat these P2P races - we used to be able to back up for a ways in Forza 1 - but everybody is on their honor with this as all our challenges.  Only Certified passes are to be posted.

That's it.

Use any car you want to.  But if you show up with a Leaderboard car, we might have to boo hiss you a little, hell, a lot, even... ;D

But use a car that you love and like to drive.  Participation; and the level of your participation, will count far more than minutes and seconds in this challenge.

:) Blooze $

The Scoreboards will be separated by class, and scored by time.  But please, don't let the time be a governing factor in your vehicle choices.

Since we (I) am having to deal with Posting 12 times and the subtotals and such, there are some input requirements on your part...

The Environments should be presented in this order.
Nurburgring, Fujimi Kaido, Positano.  Ring, Kaido, Positano with work - Hell, N, K, and P will work - just keep them in that order.

The stage times should be presented in their Name order, i.e., A, B, C, and D.
Method 1 - Semi-Colon delimited string, like so...
Nurburgring: 136.069; 127.667; 155.605; 154.087
Kaido:         140.657; 189.022; 127.844; 125.125
Positano:     109.376; 090.140; 109.892; 126.026

Or presented in a bulleted list like this...
  • N = 136.069; 127.667; 155.605; 154.087
  • K = 140.657; 189.022; 127.844; 125.125
  • P = 109.376; 90.140; 109.892; 126.026

Method 2 - A list, (DO NOT use the bulleted list for this method!!)
Nurburgring
A - 138.267
B - 127.916
C - 161.216
D - 155.900
Kaido...
Positano...
or

Ring
138.267
127.916
161.216
155.900

Method 1 takes up less space on the page so I guess would be considered the better of the two methods.  I can handle either way.

You should include the Class, the Pi, and an unambiguous name (no, "Civic" won't cut it).  If the Pi is omitted the max will be assumed.

You don't have to turn in all three of the stages in one pass.  You can turn in one stage at a time.  If that is what you are doing, let me know if the record is new, or a continuation of one that has been started.  Also, let me know if the data is an update to an existing record.

Note: Records without all 3 stages will not have a Overall Record.  The ones that are there were grand-fathered in...

You may have noticed, the thread is pinned and there is no end date.  The intention is to keep this here so a feller can take a pass at the Targa Forza any time he wants to, or set up a tuning challenge that uses the Targa Forza Leaderboard as its measuring stick.

Let's have some fun with this.

;D $

Attached is an Excel spreadsheet that can be used for tracking times for many cars and totaling them and stuff.  Included is a little device for building the strings we use to Post our times for the Targa Forza.  They are in the little Yellow block near the bottom left side of the page.  The only thing you need to do is enter the correct Row Offset and you are in business.  The things works while you complete the times - sort of cool really.  By way of an example, I included the Times for my X Class Acura.  You can see that the record is on Row 10, but the Row Offset is 9 (because the Row 1 is not part of the data set).  That's all ya got to do.  Type a 10 into the Offset and you will see what I mean.  The sheet makes life a bit simpler, for those of you who have Excel...  All you got to do is Copy/Paste the 3 yellow cells in the F column into the forum editor and you are done.

Don't have time to put in laps right now, but my first car will be the first gen miata, based not so loosely on Keith Tanner's Targa Miata from a few years back.  It's the first real-life tune I adapted to Forza, and one of my favorites.  Flyin Miata has informed a lot of my Miata projects on this game, and I've done NA's from E class all the way up to A.

Hey, Blooze, this, for a bit of perspective (IYDM)...

If you’re gonna be singer then you better be rock star
If you’re gonna be a driver then you better drive a race car

Cool... I got some nice cars for this...

D Class - Alfa Romeo Giulitta

One of my all time favourite cars and the first car I bought in game, built up as a fully stripped out rally racer its so much fun in the twisties, it was also the first full replica paint I created for my storefront.

C Class - Lancia Stratos

Another one of my favourite rally cars, took a while tuning this one to get it right but so rewarding now it is, eats up hairpins for breakfast...

B Class - Lancia Delta

Like the Stratos, this car is also a rally favourite of mine, hours of time spent tuning up and down Kaido and round Positano, at one stage it was in the top 30 overall on both Kaido and Positano point to point tracks.

As they are all rally specials the gearing is set short for best acceleration so they will probably suffer when they get to the Ring but the should make up for it on the other 2 tracks.

Extra smokey.... now with no assists!

The tracks are the big draw for me,....but I like the whole Targa idea, especially becuase just like the real thing, just running and participating is a big part of the whole experience.

I'll look into running a RWD, in C, B, or A for this one.

I think there will be some of that going both ways.  Cars that normallly wouldn't get run on the 'Ring having to make do, and a 'Ring killer scratching and clawing to make it up the hill...

I remember that Delta of yours on Kaido - that one is tight!

I ran a car that has been on my "round tuit" list for a long time last night to complete my R3 Super Lap Days events and get a feel for the event.  Gearing is going to be tricky but I think I have it sorted for a one setup run on all three tracks.

First off, the Aussie Supercars are limited to about 175mph, at least mine was on the limiter for most of the Ring.  It accelerates well and has more than enough power to roast the 280's off the rear end of it.  Then I went to Fujimi and had one hell of a time getting up the hill but did great coming back down.  The trans was decent in 3rd and 4th for most of the track as 2nd would just ignite the rear tires.  Positiano was a blast but again, 3rd and 4th for most of the track with a few upshifts to 5th and even a 2nd gear turn or three.

I tossed the trans sheet out the window only saving final drive, first and second gear.  I slightly stretched third as I was in between 3rd and 4th a lot and there is no overrev to keep from having to shift.  Then I stretched 4th just a touch, maybe 2 or 3 clicks.  Since I rarely hit 5th and never hit 6th off of the Ring I stretched them out to be my "overdrive" gears.  I have plenty of power to pull a longer gear in both so I went to Sunset Penninsula to do some testing, actually I ran the entire R3 Aussie Supercar event.  The gearset is a bit strange but as long as I remember that 2nd to 4th is for tight road courses and 5th and 6th are for top speed I'm good to go.  I was able to hit 182 on the Oval section of Sunset and didn't feel that the lower gears were to spread apart for the infield section.  I'll have a run through the Big 3 again without Rossi breathing down my neck and hope for certified times.

Not a perfect fix but a viable option if you ask me.
Go sell crazy someplace else, we're all stocked up here.

Out back!?!?!?!?  With steep curbs and solid walls on both sides of all these tracks the dented fenders on the car will do just fine where they are.  I didn't do much to the car, we work on a tight budget around here.  Just added the adjustable trans, driveshaft and a set of wheels that are as close as possible to the stock ones so I could get rid of a bit of tire flex if need be.  Other than that this thing would pass tech inspection for the next official race.

Its a good thing we went and entered the series that offered this thing up as a prize.  I never get tired of cashing those checks but once you drive this car you'll understand how much better it is than a little bump in the bank account.

(IIRC there was no restrictor, only upgradeable valves, displacement and pistons.  There aren't any better or wider tires, not much at all.  Brakes, trans, driveshaft, and rims I believe.)
Go sell crazy someplace else, we're all stocked up here.

Yeah, you're right.  I bolted everthing on that were't nailed down.  Only costs about $70k  ;D

And, since that is the only car I own, I plan on driving it all over the place.
