C Class RWD Run-off
« on: March 02, 2010, 08:40:39 AM »
As I said in the Let's chase Blooze thread, i've just built up some new C Class cars and as I haven't really spent much time tuning with any of my current C Class cars I thought it was about time to go through and test them all out properly and see what's what.

So my C Class garage looks like this at the moment:-

Jaguar E-Type
Lamborghini Miura
Mercedes 300SL
Nissan 300 ZX (Fairlady)
Ford '05 Mustang
Jaguar XKR-S (supercharger removed)
'82 911 Turbo
Corvette C1
Lancia Stratos
'03 Mini Cooper S

For this test i'm going to leave the Stratos and the Mini to one side, the Stratos is a dedicated short track car and obviously the Mini is FWD.

I had a look through the career event list and decided to run each car through 2 events to try and get an overall idea of where each cars strengths lay.

First up is RWD Elite (C425) event. This is the short track section, with races at:-

Tsukuba Short
Suzuka East
Motegi East

Then it's the C Class World Championship. This is the long track section, with races at:-

Sebring Full
Catalunya GP
Sedona Full
Silverstone GP
Suzuka Full

There a a couple of things I hope to get out of this, one as I said is just to get an idea of where each cars strengths and weaknesses lay, the other is to see how the Jaguar XKR-S compares to the other C Class cars after having it's Supercharger removed and being brought down to C Class from B Class and if this 'glitch' just gives more build options on a car or if it does privide any kind of unfair advantage over other cars.

(Edit: Forgot the '82 911 Turbo, it's now been added to the car list)

Absolutely want to run through this one.  I have several of the same cars as well as a couple others that are of particular interest, here's my motivation.

Well now.. looks like I better go and get some more beer to put in the winnebago if the rest of the crew are coming along for the ride too..  8)

I started off yesterday and took the E type out to run through the races and get myself a set of baseline times, but Catalunya is my nemisis, I was over 2 seconds slower than my PB in the same car.   >:(

I just can't seem to go well around any of that tracks configurations at all, I was tempted to drop it from the track list all together but decided to keep it in, mainly in the hope of finding at least one car that I can get around there in a decent time. But I need to really spend more time there learning the track too.

As I run through i'll post up the builds for each car and a few driving notes. I'm also going to give each car a top speed run down the Mulsanne to see how the speed ratings compare and how close the actual top speed is compared to the benchmark figures.

Started running my Mercedes through the races this afternoon.  I'm surprised how different that car handles since I haven't driven it for a while.  It's not bad but I spent a fair amount of time sorting it out on Nuremburg GP and it seems a bit soft for the tighter short tracks.  I'll post times once that car is done but I've been shoved off the TV for my son to play his Wii game for being good this morning.

The Mercedes is a nice car, i've not run mine though the races yet but when i've run it before i've found it slightly quicker than the E-type in a straight line but not quite as good in the corners.  So far i've run the E-type and i'm about halfway through with the Miura which has thrown down some good times already even in its basic state of tune.

It beat out the E-type by 7 seconds on the Sebring race and went a second a lap faster with more time to come and I even managed a half decent attempt at Catalunya in it so its got potential. Next on my list is the Nissan Fairlady which is much more of a power build compared to everything else so I think it will struggle on the short tracks but it should go well on the full Sedona track.

Haven't bought the Miura yet.  I was hoping to have enough cash in the bank after I ran the 300SL, the E-type, the Ford GT, and even my 250 GTO through to be able to justify the 420,000cr purchase price.  If it's as fast as you say it is I may put it on the HAVE to have list instead of the WANT to have list.

Had a bit of time to hop on and run a few races.  Started from the bottom of my list as sorted by PI, here's the results.

Mercedes 300SL
Track - Fast lap / Total race

Tsukuba Short- 47.662 / 3:17.346
Suzuka East- 56.977 / 2:56.909
Motegi East- 95.953 / 3:21.885

Sebring Full- 146.204 / 9:55.070
Catalunya GP- 124.704 / 8:30.707
Sedona Full- 154.587 / 7:59.951
Silverstone GP- 128.120 / 8:42.674
Suzuka Full- 142.657 / 9:39.272

Jaguar E-type (*4 speed Sport Trans)
Track - Fast lap / Total race

Tsukuba Short- 47.547 / 3:16.968
Suzuka East- 56.611 / 2:57.825
Motegi East- 95.639 / 3:19.842

Sebring Full- 144.568 / 9:49.663
Catalunya GP - 124.606 / 8:32.774
Sedona Full- 154.824 / 7:55.894
Silverstone GP - 126.499 / 8:34.460
Suzuka Full- 120.898 / 9:35.445

Oddly enough there was a freshly delivered Muira just primed and waiting for me just before I went diving into the Auction House to start shopping.  Thanks Pete!  One thing to note the Jag only has a 4 speed but is nearly 10mph faster on any straightaway than the Mercedes and the lack of shifting shows its strength too.  Nothing is a rewarding as watching the car in your rearview's nose drop to shift and you just pull away with 1500 RPM's left before your gear change.  Torque wins and 2400lbs helps.  More to come.

Glad I could help you out with the Miura, Fit. Our E-type and 300SL builds seem a little different, the jag is top of my pi list and the merc is a little quicker. Compared to your E-type I have the race box in and i'm about 100lbs heavier but the times are pretty close.

Ran the Stang last night and I had high hopes that my one and only "Purchased" tuner car would really shine.  Boy was I let down.  It has a top speed nearly 20mph off the Jag and acceleration not as peppy as my 300SL so it was no surprise that the first 'Merican car I toss in the ring stinks it up.  The car was purpose built for Silverstone International so I held out hope it could redeem itself on that track.  Still no dice.  After all the races the Stang is sitting at the bottom of the pile, prettier than the rest, but in a matter of thinking, all dressed up and nowhere to go.  I'll add the times later, didn't bring them to work.

Pete, I pulled out my new Jaguar and set out to build it but have no history of downgrading cars.  I looked everywhere to find out how to remove that supercharger and I never saw the option.  Perhaps I'm missing something or just daft, either way if you could give a hint I'd be happy to do the rest of the build work.

Instead I bought and started building on the 300ZX.  Loads of grip right out of the box but a little soft on power for the tracks we're running here, build version 1 is done so I'll work on that thing between running the Miura and my 250.

Your not being daft Fit, You need to do a little messing about to take it off as its a glitch in the game, T10 is aware of it but has no plans to patch it unlike with the transmission glitches. I wanted to test it out and see if it made any advantage or just allowed different build options. So far i've not found any advantage, i've run the XKR a couple of times and I don't expect it to challange the other cars on these tracks. The Ford GT i'm trying in B class is a little better though.

Here's the steps to remove the supercharger.. As far as I know it works on any car with 1 other option in the aspiration upgrade menu.

1) Go to the Aspiration Upgrade and buy the change of upgrade.

2) Go to the Engine Upgrade and buy the SPORT level turbo / supercharger upgrade

3) Sell the upgrade straight back to the game, the Pi shown in the lower right corner of the screen will have dropped.

One side effect of doing this is you can then use the intercooler as ballast, you can still add it but it gives no increase in power.

My 300ZX is quite different to the other cars i'm trying out, It was originally built for a 'Bang for Bucks' challange and as you said its quite grippy to start with so I went with adding power with a cam and turbo upgrades to get as much Pi as possible for the 30,000 budget. This build has just added a few other parts to bring it up to the top of class. After running it today I want to see if I can rebuild it a bit though, it has plenty of power but feels a bit laboured in putting it to the road.

Worked on a 300ZX last night and I believe she's ready for a run through.  Next opportunity I'll run the Fairlady and the Miura through the gauntlet and post up the times for it and the Mustang.

After that I'll build out the Jag and see what it's all about to detune a car for a class.  That will take a little time so I can see really what happens when you downgrade it.

My Z also got a mild Cam upgrade but I left the turbo alone.  I went for lighter drivetrain instead of more power and after tweaking the gears with a helpful tip from Barumba the car pulls well enough that I'm glad I didn't add any more big power parts to it.  I was zipping up the hill at Laguna last night with no problems and had the diff sorted so I could hop back on the throttle for the corkscrew.  It managed a respectable time on Cataluna National and even managed a few decent hotlaps around Tsukuba.  We'll see if the build is the culprit or if I'm just a 'lax driver when the times come up.  I hope it falls between the Merc and the E-type timewise because if it falls below them I can only compare it to the Ford and I was less than pleased with that car overall.  At least for this experiment.
