Gold Leaf Challenge
« on: January 29, 2010, 04:43:16 AM »
What you see below is my rather pathetic attempt to emulate gold leaf.  Oh?  Well, look at how the inside of the Two looks dirty...

I started with an orange 2, then layered a kind of veiny looking vinyl in various dark greens, blues, and reds on top of the 2 - then I covered the two with a more yellow 2 and turned the transparency down to about 50%

So the challenge is...  To find a method to emulate gold leaf.

I surely would be interested in any ideas that anybody has.  I thought I had a good one, but alas... (all ass?)

I checked on the Store Front for "Gold Leaf" and all I got were the words Gold Leaf.  Apparently there is a Lotus racing team named that...

:)

Oh, btw... I finally figured out how to use the "Stamp" tool... thanks Spiny!

[edit]  I just noticed that that picture really sucks for showing the "gold leaf".  Until I can get a better shot, I will put the thing on my store front...

Various pics....

...and....

A "turned" pattern would be best with a metallic base, and then stamped with a uniform but transparent faded circle pattern.

A "flaked" style might work with the same meatllic base, but a very fine transparent random geometric pattern overlay.

Either one is going to consume alot of layers, and would probably "pop" visually the best when fully masked out.

I'll through some time at this and see if what i'm thinkin' will work.

EDIT: Doh, got sidetracked by BF:BC2. Need to keep working on this....
