Let's Chase Blooze - Redux
« on: January 18, 2010, 07:03:59 AM »
Here we go again.  :D

Do you ever check the Forum Stats?  If you do then you will have noticed that the first "Let's Chase Blooze"  thread was the most popular thread on the board by a long ways.  Which is sort of cool.  So as we jumped into the middle of Forza III, one of my goals from the onset was to get into a chase-able position again.

Well, according to my Friends List, I am more or less there...  But I shouldn't be too hard to catch.  Especially on some of the lower classes where I eschewed the leaderboard cars and pretty much went with just one or two cars (actually you need between 4 and 5 cars per class to finish off a Circuit class.  You only need one to do a P2P class, probably two cause the best hill climber isn't necessarily gonna bring what is needed to the table for the Nub'ring parts.

Here's how they sit right now... (Updated 06/14/10)

These were mostly done to coincide with the Season thing so there really wasn't so much "Hotlapping" as there was "Race Results"  I tried to re-do the ones that truely sucked, but I am sure I've missed a few.

So there ya go...  come and git me.

;D $

Oh, and my best over all was 26 - got there on 11/27.

Since I think I kicked off the original idea for "Chase the Blooze" it seems appropriate to be the first messager in this thread.

I'm starting on C class, doing it mainly from the top to bottom in the order it is listed in circut (didn't really consider doing drag, p2p, and oval, hmmm...) I just finished off the Speedway stuff and now have to learn Catalunya.  I'm currently at 581 on C circut about 24 hours behind Blooze.

Curious, I just noticed the web based scoreboard is not updated with my latest times from this morning which I completed about an hour ago.  The FM2 web leaderboard was pretty much real time.  Does the FM3 one lag a bit?

I will come and get you ;) ...eventually! Still going through the Event List at the moment so not really paying much attention to hotlapping. But, as with FM2 I'm sure I'll get there in the end. The only leaderboard I'm anywhere near a decent position in is the Time Trial, and I'm sure I'll slide down that soon enough.

Also, as before expect a random selection of cars with few leaderboard vehicles sitting in there.

Spiny - what you gonna do if that Randomizer calls for the 333p Ferrari?

TJN - you are indeed coming after me in C - those are quite the times you've set so far.  I may have to return to C and see if I can defend myself somewhat.  Specially on Amalfi...

...

Guess I'll just have to run her. After all, I did end up with a couple of leaderboard cars in FM2 as well. I'm not averse to running the leaderboard cars, but I want to give the other cars an even run too and certainly won't be running exclusively leaderboard cars. The current idea (which may well be modified as on current progress it's going to take me 3-4 months just to finish career) is to run one car per class per environment. That will take longer, but will leave me with more tuned cars. It also means that there is more chance of that 333P coming up, but it will only be for one locale. ;)

I was thinking more of the expense...  the 333p is 11 million.

Amalfi!  That took some time.  I was thinking of asking if anyone had tips on tuning for it.  The first thing I had to do was tune my car to not bottom out because I was having problems just getting a certified lap.  Equaly as big a problem was tuning the nut behind the wheel ;)  My main car adjustments were to raise the ride height and increase the overall damper settings.   I also upped the springs but just by a tiny bit.  My (non-car guy background) thought was to let the spings flex to soak up the bumps but try to control it well with the dampers.  There is still one place that I sometimes uncertify but I'm not sure if I'm just barely brushing the wall or bottoming out.  How do others tune for it?

Now I'm working on a good car for Catalunya plus I need to tune that old nut behind the wheel for that track.  My little Lotus Elise did ok on the shortest ribbon but it doesn't have much top end for the longer ribbons.  I'm just outside the top 1000 with it on National but that's about 7 seconds back from the top times.

TJN - one thing I've found with Catalunya is that it is NOT a power track (at least not for me). That big straight tempted me into thinking that I needed power for quite some time, but eventually I realised I was getting better cars in the reasonably grippy cars than in the power cars. I would guess that your best bet is something with a bit of both, but tending to grip.

Spiny - That was kind of my initial thought after trying a few cars as well.  I need what I call a "mid car" which is between a grip car and a power car.  I also agree it seems I need to err on the side of grip.  I'll probably work on this this weekend.  I also need to figure out which corners I can cut without uncertifying.  I don't really have the last few slow turns right before the big straight down well yet.

I ended up going with the 05 Acura NSX.  I was able to beat my Elise time on National with it and put up an ok but not great time on the GP ribbon.  Probably more time to be found in the nut behind the wheel  but I feel like moving on for now...  on no the big Japanese hill is next...  talk about need to tune the nut.

I'll be heading back to F-class in an attempt to dethrone Blooze.  My newly aquired knowledge should do well to improve not only the tunes but the builds of all of my lower class cars.  Plus, I haven't posted a time since the mini-wipe so I should have some improvement just by running one certified lap.

There were details on the daught net but I conveniently can't find them now.  They took the top 1000 out of one of the tracks due to finding a bug and it messed with everyones roll up time.  All you needed to do was set a certified lap and the "server" would recalculate your times in all the classes, as I remember.  If I stumble into the thread again I'll post it.

Here's the thread he's talking about...

http://forums.forzamotorsport.net/forums/thread/3523507.aspx

The wipe only happened in the time trials to one track.

That 5.5 hours is what we discussed a couple months ago when I found it.  I didn't think it was a bug...

I wonder if they thought about it - was getting rid of that 5.5 hours the best solution?

Ok so it was a very limited wipe in time trials.  The time trials don't seem very popular based on the number of times posted.  It took me a while to even find them.  I guess with no completion acheivement on them this time not as many people are going there.
