New Forza; New Year; First Challenge
« on: December 31, 2009, 02:37:42 PM »
Well alrighty then.  Here it is.  Actually it sort of got dropped in my lap when Fit and I tied over on the Mountain.  For those of you un-aware, I started a series of cars that more or less emulates the British Touring Car Championship cars and a few other folks have been messing with them as well.

So for the first challenge we'll have a few other firsts.

Fancy little foreigne looking cars that make smoke on the front tires.  This is the BTCC spec and rather than repeat it here, I offer this link...

http://forza-tuning.net/index.php/topic,1309.msg22170.html#msg22170

That should explain it pretty well, and just to make sure... we are talking about the B Class FWD Hatchbacks.  Please don't build to the S2000 spec and claim confusion.

And for a track, how about the New Kaido P2P, both the New Uphill, and the New Downhill so we don't get unbalanced.

A leaderboard will also be supplied for the QR times if any of you care to run them - some of us do by default when we're building.

We'll also have a livery challenge to go with this one.  They can be actual or fantasy, but should be in the spirit of the BTCC race cars.

This all starts immediately, and will run through Sunday the 24th ( 01/24/10 )  Hopefully that will give everybody enough time.

Now for me, that mountain is not in Japan, but in the North Central part of the State.  There's cool little Ski Town at the bottom of the pass, one hell of a party town.  There's a bar near the entrance to the Ski Area, it's a hell of a party place too.  In the summer there is some excellent fishing on the river and a resevoir near the top of the pass.  And there is the road.  There are a couple of organized races throughout the summer and fall, and there are any number of impromptu races when ever a couple of clowns get the wild hair to see who and get to the top the fastest, or beat the other guy off the mountain.

Have some fun with this,

Cool, a reason to learn Kaido.

Ok I assume the times must be certified?  This may take a few runs :D

I broke out the Peugeot 207 that I built yesterday and ran a QR on it.  It came out just behind the Leon SC to become the second fastest for me.  There is some transmission work that I want to look into for these new Turbo Charged cars.  That could change quite a bit for all of these, or most of them anyway.

I got two pretty good runs in with it...
New Uphill: 299.049
New Downhill:  290.057

These are both top 500 times.

Well, the Astra has been sitting there in my garage looking for some action - guess now's the time :)

Well, it took a few runs but I finally managed not to miss a corner and go smashing into a wall ::)

Focus RS
New Uphill:298.999 - That put me at 131, which was 2 above you, Blooze :P.  Pretty darn close.
New Downhill: 288.104

One thing I did note on the RS, is that the rears never get even close to being up to temp, probably because they're just along for the ride.
There's some time left in it, we'll see if I can improve them at all.   I think I took a couple corners much to slow, mostly because I smashed into them during a previous run.

Those are some good times Bad One.

I don't drop the pressure on the back ones quite as much so the pressures will equalize because of the heat reason.

The downhill is a real bitch for me - I don't seem to be able to get into the wild free fall mode that is required to do well on them.

I got a couple more passes in with the Peugeot 207 this afternoon.

New Hillclimb: 296.864
New Downhill: 288.856

I'm gonna try to get to the Golf tomorrow or the next day and see how it does as a BTCC car.

Speaking of which - the BTCC is on at Noon Central on the SPEED Channel, the German cars are on before that at 11:00.

Wuff, those are fast Open - I knew my time at the top was to be short lived.

I would dearly love to know how you got that affect on the numbers on the side of your car.

And, it looks like I need to revisit the Focus RS...

...

I don't know if this is how Open did it, but here's how I'd do an outline 2 clicks wide:

Create the original "170" at point 0,0 in black
Highlight all, move left 2 and up 2 points then stamp
Move new item right 4 points then stamp
Move 3rd item down 4 points, stamp again
Move 4th item left 4 points, stamp yet again
Change new item to white, and move up 2 and right 2 points.

Just change the number of points you move to adjust the thickness of the outline.

That's basically how I did it.

That Focus is pretty fun to drive.  One of my first forays into FWD and I'm sure the tune could be better still, but I'm not sure it would improve those times any.

I also still think the SEAT may be the go to car but I've yet to drive it to see.

Found my old Blooze tune spreadsheet and tried tuning a Mini with it this morning.  Car came out with pretty decent nuetral handling but I think I'll make some updates to the sheet and go over some of the recent turning threads here.  Anyway I put in many runs on that big hill and now almost know most of the uphill direction.  Just squeeked under 5 minutes without hitting any walls.  Phew...
