LMMS: Four Door Slammers
« on: September 01, 2009, 08:49:22 PM »
And without further delay, A new challenge is opened up.

No story as of now. Might weave one in later.

On to the critical stuff.

I've been looking at the cars in the LMMS line up that get no love. The four door luxury saloons. So its time to get to know these big cruisers.

And at what better place than a racetrack.

So this week the eligible cars are

Cadillac CTS-V
Dodge Charger SRT-8
Lotus Carlton
Mercedes C32

at Sunset Infield Long

The rules are standard LMMS regs:
A-850
Slicks
Front and Rear Forza Aero
600 HP maximum

Sorry for the delay, but I got sidetracked this weekend and just finally got the testing done last night.

Good Luck and hope for some fast times.

oohhh... im rusty, with a capital R - definitely good to be getting in some laps to warm up for FM3.

Lotus Carlton 1.34.6 - not tuned, cant remember how ;)
... but from the boards, looks like i want to be targeting 28-30, so lots of work for me :)

i was going more for grip/weight... rather than power (think < 500) , whats the perceived wisdom at sunset?

Power, power and more power. Infield full is not as power dependant as the short.

But that said, I knocked off .5 secs by adding weight and more power.

The three cars are really close as far as my times go. It comes down to which car is more comfortable to you.

CTS is a top speed demon. But thas a fair amount of understeer. Almost too much.

The Charger has the most grip, despite being the heaviest (in current build). Much more comfortable. Better turn in. But then its a non-cheater Mopar. Which means its got the slowest top speed of the bunch.

The Carlton is much more responsive than the both of them. And is a hoot to drive (for me). But the rear end is also the least planted, and provoking that makes for big hits on the time.

They aren't full power yet. I would say they are at 60% on a full power build. Still have alot of tire width and at least one weight reduction I can take off. But they are all hovering over the 500-525HP mark.

thats was the issue i was facing, tricky to get power down ... and anything else without getting the tail out.
as you say a hoot to drive :)

I got a run out it all 3 cars yesterday, I don't have the times in front of me right now but I found the Carlton to be the fastest. I took the tune I have on my current A-class Carlton which has full WR and and only the rear wing for down force and it translated pretty well. Though the extra weight and slightly downgraded tyres meant it felt like i had a touch more understeer on the LMMS version even though it has the front splitter and rear bumper for extra downforce..  ???

Edit - Times added

Lotus Carlton - 88.827

Cadillac CTS-V -89.046

Dodge Charger SRT8 - 89.541

Stats

CARPOWERTORQUEWEIGHT      POWER TO WEIGHT    TYRES (F-R)SPD/ACCEL/BRK/HND
Lotus Carlton    477hp@6000rpm      495lb-ft@4500rpm      3228lbs    325hp per ton    255/30R19 - 285/30R195.9 / 5.8 / 5.7 / 5.6

Each car is a similar build with sports WR and max width slicks. Next I'm going to try builds with more power and less tyre and see how they compare.

Ha!  This looks interesting!  I run right out and bought me a Cadillac!  Going with the Sport WR, Michelin Slicks and 500 Hp - along with a 50/76 Tonka Toon I was able to determine...

I suck...  :-[

The skilz have gone all a-rust.  Along with that, my wheel is fritzing; shifting up 2 gears about half the time.  I sort of want to wait for FM3 before upgrading the wheel to see what the market looks like then - may buy me a clutch rig.

Cadillac CTS-V; 92.786

btw: There is a Penensula race in the 600Hp Semi Pro Series that pays pretty well - I had to turn the AI down to Ameoba to win it tho...

Alright. Time to get off my butt and post my times.

CTS    520HP
89.067

Charger  530HP
89.229

Carlton    540HP
89.361

I believe that the Carlton is at full weight. So the only thing I can cut back on is the tire width. The other two have some weight reduction on them.

I'll start working on the LB later tonight. But if you haven't posted a time, as Jason Statham says in Snatch, "What are you waiting for Tommy? Zee Germans?"

Well, the Germans are here. Because the Mercedes C32 is now opened up. And with this last car, that is all of the FR four door cars in the game. Depressing I know. Everything else in the saloon (4 door) catagory is either AWD or FWD.

Now I'm off to shoot something.  ;D

No times yet, but I managed to get a build and toon done before being dragged into some online racing. Actually, I say I got a tune together, but all I did was deconstruct the green Charger from the GT600 trials. On the test run it handled surprisingly well - it could put the power down nicely although it does run out of gears on the straight at about 170 - I think 6th just needs lengthening a bit. No time from me yet, but this feels like it's a nice car - especially since I kept the initial 598bhp and just added spoilers and weight while sacrificing the tyres to skinny Pirellis.

Got a few laps in last night in the Charger (598bhp version as above) and ended up with exactly the same time as Pete - 89.541s. Compared to the 400-and-something bhp Spirra that holds my ghost on here, the Charger is slightly quicker in the corners but losing out down the straights and under braking. Looks like that baby elephant in the back seat is having an effect...

The rules are standard LMMS regs:

600 HP maximum

As for the rules...
Rules:
Cars must not exceed A Class 850 PI maximum.
Cars must weigh more than 3000 lbs. 3000 lbs minimum.
Cars must race on slick tires. There is no tire sponsor, so any brand you wish to choose. But must be slicks.
Cars must not have more than 600 horsepower. If your car is found to have more, expect penalties.
