GT400 Dynos!

As promised!

I used data I could gather, using the exit of a turn at Road Atlanta.  If you provide me with more data, I'll be happy to plug it in (I'll need exact RPM, horsepower, and torque, which can be found using stop-motion and telemetry)! The dynos stop where you guys shifted.

UPDATED!  Thanks for the data, Pete!  ;D

UPDATED again!  I've got my offline data added, too.

UPDATED yet again! Open, your data's now included!

UPDATED once more!  Spiny, you're now included!

Send me yours, and I'll put it up there, too! :)

Nicely done!  Thanks for putting this together.  So I'm driving the most powerful car, and Snyder is driving the least powerful.  I never would have guessed that before testing began.

Because of the data-gathering method,  I don't have a ton of data for everyone *cough*Open*cough*, so I was thinking about trying to get the whole grid to amuse me with a dyno run after the race Sunday.

Usually, what I do is get the car to ~1100rpm in 3rd, and floor it until I bounce of the limited a coupe of times, then I can get a full-RPM curve for everyone, and wheelspin shouldn't be an issue in 3rd gear.

Nice work Bimmer, but i'm not sure if a Dyno run in MP would give very good results, just looking at the numbers you got here from Rd Atlanta, my car is over 10 bhp down on what it actually makes and Snyder's doesn't even reach 300hp!

Makes me think that what the telemetery shows up when watching replays / spectating is suffering just a little bit of lag which throws the figures out, so you only get the true figures on your own machine...

I can send you over the figures I used for my Dyno graph if you like?

Aside from the figures being a bit skewed though, It's intresting to see how different the cars are in terms of power delivery and how much of the rev range people are using coming out of the same turn... Did you use the hairpin onto the back straight?

Ideally, everyone'd supply their own data for maximum accuracy  ;)

Nice work Bimmer, although I'm not sure that the Miura has that pronounced dip that shows on the charts. I know you didn't get my figures off Road Atlanta, so I'm intrigues as to where they did come from. I didn't feather the throttle a little under acceleration did I?

Like Pete, the chart seems to underestimate the bhp on the Miura - the chart suggests it develops 370 bhp, but it's actually 385. I have a laptop on the way which will make collecting data much easier - once I have that I'll collect the data and send it across to you so hopefully we can get a mroe accurate chart. I'm not sure if I'll make the race at Suzuka so may not be able to do the accel thing for you.

As for initial impressions, I'm not surprised that Snyder has the least powerful car - the INGS has oodles of grip so it's only natural that it shouldn't be able to hold as much bhp. I am surprised that fender has the most power though - I would have expected that to have gone to Pete. The things which mostly surpised me about the chart was the shift points though - who would have expected the two lowest revving cars to be rotaries? And, in view of the relatively low amount of torque and full cam upgrade in my car, I'm very surprised to see that I seem to be using more of the rev range than any of the rest of you ???

Spiny, I got yours off of the start at the ring, as you basically didn't do a burnout, giving data from lower in the revs.  The beginning is basically how low you guys were coming out of the turn on Atlanta (save Spiny, of course), and the end is the shift point

I'm also noting some inaccuracies in the telemetry - likely lag related - I think, ideally, you guys'd collect data offline and send it to me/edit it into the spreadsheet.

Had a thought for sending the dyno results to Bimmer, easiest way is to create a basic spreadsheet with columns RPM / Power (hp) / Torque (lb-ft) and then once you have all the data save this file as the type .csv

If you then open this file in notepad you can copy and paste the text into a PM, Bimmer can then take this data and dump it straight into excel, this way we don't have to worry about sending large files, file hosting or using different versions of excel...  ;)

Also, about 250 rpm increments give good results for the graphs.

Assuming that the noise is essentially random, this still tells us a few things about our cars.  From this graph, it seems like I'm using my best shifting strategy, revving as high as possible and focusing on keeping the revs up.  IIRC, that turn is about as low as I ever let the tach fall on a lap of Road Atl.  I might actually do better to run slightly tighter gears, staying further up in the power band for longer.  Maybe I'll mess around with that.  I only use fifth gear at the Ring, and was hitting the limiter in fourth just as I hit the braking zone at the end of the Road Atlanta straight.  This could be handy when we hit Daytona for the finale.

I knew there was an advantage to my lack of torque somewhere :D

I'm crossing my fingers I can get full data to you by the weekend...

Updated!  Thanks for the data, pete!  Worked quite well  ;D

I'm hoping to find time to do it this week - at the latest, Friday afternoon (unless DD, Fndr, Pete, or Open lure me into liberty city first  ;))
