GT400: Bilstein 24 Hours of Nurburgring
« on: March 12, 2009, 08:47:04 AM »
I've been working on my cars tune for this weeks race, First up I went back to a saved 'Ring' setup that I'd ran in the pre season. It ran ok but had a lot of downforce and felt a bit soft. Also after DD's comments about my car bottoming out a lot at previous races I decided to try and work on a new tune.

After combining my alignment settings from my MVS tune and Gearbox from Rd Atlanta, I also raised the ride height and drastically stiffened the suspension, It now feels a lot sharper, isn't bottoming out but I can still attack the kerbs without being speared off into the barrier... lol

Currently hitting standing laps in tuning sessions just under 8 minutes, no flying laps yet, as at the moment i'm just pushing to find the cars limits and finalise the tune.

Just one question (its probably been said before but i've missed it) How many laps are we running?

I hope like hell it's 10. I really don't think my hands can survive 25 laps here :D

I've not run the Miura around here yet, but the VX220 and Spirra were both around the 7:51-7:52 mark and I see no reason why this should be any slower - in general it's a bit quicker than those two on the flowing tracks so I'm hoping to be hitting the 7:40's. Of course, that's assuming I don't introduce myself to Mr. Barrier!!!

I was thinking 75, but we can do 10 instead.  God, some people get all pissy just because they have to go to work Monday AND Tuesday.... :D

Sounds like I'm a bit behind the curve here.  7:50 thus far.

Not really behind the curve fndr - I don't think I'll be much better than 7:50 (if I am at all) but in truth I think this race will be more about who keeps in on the island best. That's why I'm looking to run a high d/f set-up if I can make it.

The RX7 is feeling pretty solid.  Since there really aren't any passing zones, though, I'm worried about our ability to run nose to tail.  I won't set any hot laps, probably won't get much faster than about 7:48 or so if I'm lucky.  I'm also hoping to "keep it on the island," as you put it.

I ran a flying lap of 7:48.xxx and a second lap of 7:44, but i need an open field for that and race pro HLC is messing with my forza driving skills, haha

A 7:50 will be a good time to be aiming for in the race trying to push for a fast lap does usually end in disaster..    :'(   so best plan for passing here is to either hope you're faster on the straights or just follow and wait for the person in front to fall of the track..  :P

I just ran a 7:54.909 opening with a wall-filled first turn on the second lap  :-[

I'd guesstimate she's good for a 7:44 at race pace, provided I keep her between the lines.

Looks like, for the first time in my life, I might have something for Snyder  ;D

As for straightline, I'm 170mph at the S/F line, 172 at the bridge, and 175 top speed.

high 160's top speed for me.  Also, just a heads up, I'm running a charity paint scheme, and Bimmer mentioned he might.  If you have a cause you want to promote with a paint job, this is probably the week to do it.  I wouldn't throw out such an invitation on most sites, but I know the folks will be respectful toward each other's causes of choice.

Looks like you've got me there then Bimmer - best I can get out of the Miura in simulation conditions is a 7:50 unless I push really hard. And you really have me on striaght line speed too - top speed for me is 159mph, but I can only pull 157 on the long striaght due to the uphillness.

If I get chance, I'll look to transfer the Carrera S paint across to the Miura since it's a charity race.

Pre-Game Show

Intro:  It's the most famous and dangerous track in the world.  Enthusiasts know its turns and sections by name.  Flugplatz.  Karoussel.  Today, the drivers of the GT400 get to know it in a way few have, up close and personal in the Bilstein 24 Hours of Nurburgring, next on Speed!

CF:  Welcome to our coverage of the 24 Hours of Nurburgring on speed, brought to you by Bilstein.  The drivers are doing their final preparations.  Meanwhile, the standings are starting to get sorted.  Isn't that right, Dorsey?

DS:  That's right, Calvin.  Barbecue Pete has begun to stretch his lead, holding a 6-point lead on Open2nd and 9 points on Fndrbndr.  At the same time, Snyder s working his way up the ladder, in fifth just a point behind JEi Track Cars.  With this race worth a few extra points, things could definitely get shaken up today, especially here at the Ring, where just staying on the track may be enough to collect the win.

CF:  Yes, this is the most dangerous and difficult track in the world.  Going off here can lose you places and damage your car.  With the long start/finish straight, just a few mph lost can significantly increase lapimes.  We're going to take a break and hear from our sponsors.  After that, we'll be back to talk about the unique liveries of some of the competitors.
